I am in need of a #2 bolthead.
I have a 0, 1, and a 3 but no #2. If anyone has a spare they would be willing to part with, please PM me.

Is there a reason why you specifically need a #2. As the numbers are meaninless with regard to size, it is more normal to specify the size (dimension) of bolt head that you need. For example, you can get a #0 that is larger than a #1, a #2, or even a #3.

Okay, I will rephrase my question.
If anyone happens to have a spare bolt head for a No4Mk1 that is between .0633" and .0636" and if you would be willing to part with it, I ask that you PM me please. I have a #0 that is .0628", a #1 that is .0632" ,a #3 that is .0638" and another #3 that is .0640". At this time, it would only be safe to assume that a #2 bolt head would fall in size between .0633" and .0636/7"

I will check my spares, but won’t be home until Friday. I do know that I don’t have a #2 bolt head and I think my #0 and #1 bolt heads are fairly similar in length.

That could be any one of the 4 sizes, but a #1 or #2 is the most likely and a reasonable chance that a #3 would 'fit'.

...and, based off of just numbers alone, the laws of average would also suggest that the #2 bolthead would be a better choice when indicating what size I am after based solely on a stamped number on the actual bolthead itself.

As I said - a fair chance that it would be a #2, but there is also a high chance that a #2 would not be within the size range you wanted Less than 50% of #2 bolt heads measured fall in the size range you are looking for. Out of 58 bolt heads measured that are within the size you are looking for 0nly 24 (41%) are #2. This is why I always advise specifying dimensions, there is then a 100% chance of getting the dimensions you want. Your money, your call. Ask for a #2 and hope the dice falls in your favour.

I've emptied out my Bolt-Head box today, plenty for No1 Mk3, a few for No2 MkIV but the No4's are a bit 'reduced stock levels'. Mostly #0 which fell below the 0.633 / 0.636 you are looking for. I do have a #3 which mic'd up at 0.639/0.640 so unfortunately above your 0.636. I must stock up on #1 & #2. Sorry - No help to you.

I’ve been looking for a #2 bolt head for a few years and have not seen any.

Guys, I have a box full of bolt heads, I know many are #2's, mostly 0-1. A few 3's and one very rare 4. Once I get them unpacked and sorted I will update this thread. It will take a long time to measure each one so bear with me.

PM me when you do unpack them. I will ask if you would be kind enough to set aside four of the #2 and two of the #3. Not worried about each one being measured.
Thank you in advance...

Canuck, I would be very thankful for a few No. 2 bolt heads if you can spare them.

Goosic, to follow up, here are the bolt lengths I have including ones currently fitted to my rifles:
# Length (inches) 0 .629 1 .629 (Qty 3), .630 (Qty 3), .632 (Qty 1) 3 .635 (Qty 1), .638 (Qty 1) Unfortunately I only have one bolt head in the size range you were looking for and it’s fitted to my Long Branch No. 4 Mk 1/2. I’m also looking for bolt heads in the range of .633 to .636 to tighten up on headspace. |
