Howdy all,

I’ve recently picked up a Jungle Carbine that has required some work. The barrel on this thing seems “floppy” and not “springy” as I’ve been told it should be. I understand these barrels are the few (if not only) exception to free-floated Enfield barrels.
Truth be told, I haven’t shot it yet and I plan on some RLO treatments (though, I’m not sure if this has any effect on accuracy). I don’t have any expectations of making this rifle a competition sub-MOA gun, just a reliable bush gun for the Alaskan wilderness. What is the cause of the “springyness” and how would I fix that without butchering the rifle?

The barrel of the No5Mk1 is smaller in diameter than the No4Mk1.  It only contacts the forestock at the breech. The floppy that you describe is something that is more inherent with the fit of the furniture. The trigger guard is also a point of contention, whereas it has been lightened enough to cause an ill fit with the forestock.  That in conjunction with the lighter barrel and you get your floppy.
Check that the main screw is tight as well as the barrel band screw. Look at the trigger guard area around the main screw and try to move the stock back and forth to see if the stock moves.
