Well! I purchased a sporterized 1944 Long Branch No4 Mk1 Star. It's in a monte carlo stock as pictured:
Well, it's time to put her back in milspec. After like, 5 orders across a bunch of different sites, i have all the wood and hardware i need- except i could not source an original military forend. So i ended up buying a reproduction brand new forend from Prestigious Wood Stocks as pictured: Notice the complete lack of any metal! well, luckily i bought the nosecap metal, but i need help sourcing the rear tie plate for the back end of the stock, and how to fit it to my barreled action. As far as i can tell, i can buy a sporter forestock from Numrich: Eventually to fit it like this.. i guess: I could then zip off the grinds on the brass pin holding it in and drive it out, then use it. But further destroying a 17$ forestock (aswell as paying for shipping for one) sounds like a pain. Any advice would be appreciated. |

unless im missing something here , that is not a military stock , but then im easily confused these days so im sure i missed something in this post ,
if you bought a 'military' stock you will need to buy the correct metal bits , more than just the nose piece , if you are looking at the cross bolt at the wrist of that sporter it is not what holds he rifle together , before i confuse more ill wait to hear a better description from you , and perhaps others here may offer more - goosic ?

That looks like a forend for an Envoy, L39 or a No.8.

There is a gentleman on eBay that sells the Tieplate/reinforcement strap. Check with him. Sarco,Numrich, BDLLTD.COM, dixiegunworks, and Apex Guns will be your other choices to find that item. You mention cutting out a pin from a sporterized forestock? Go for it. When you have it out, put the stock on eBay for a lower price than what you paid for it. Someone is always needing something like that for another project...

I'm sorry to tell you that is the wrong forend. It should look like this & be labelled a "Military full length stock for Rifle No4 Mk1 or 1*" You will also need an "Upper handguard & a Lower Handguard" It should look like this one: |

thats what i was trying to say - thanks for the clear clarification to the OP , there are a few metal bits required as well , most sporters loose them in the changeover , would be fun if he got them but im not holding my breath in this case ,

The OP's wood fore end photo is just a sporterised cutdown version.
It's not for the No8 or L39 etc; there's no front band groove.

The OP has bought a stockset from Prestigious Wood Works that does not have any of the metal bits, including the reinforcement strap and pin. That, according to him. The picture of the sporterized forend is for visual purposes only showing the reinforcement strap and pin that of which he needs and he is wondering if buying the stock just to get the strap and pin is worth the effort and cost...

OK, I think we misunderstood the original post photos.
I think it's probably not worh buying the sportered stock to get the strap; unless it's very cheap. Although there's probably lot's of Bubba sporter wood sitting around after people have restored rifles back to military spec'.

Thanks for tons of replies guys!
Well, after scouring the internet like an actual animal- i couldn't find the tie plate ANYWHERE! Also- if you google or look up prestigious stocks (sorry i couldnt get the image to look up) it looks quite identical to a wood military forend. It's a mk1 star. I ended up buying the sporterized one because- i think it'll knock two birds with one stone- im seriously praying it comes with the collar for the front trigger guard screw. It was 17$ for the sporterized section, meanwhile with shipping that plate and pin from the UK is 11 euro (like 13 bucks usd). If i cannot salvage the rear tie plate and get it installed properly without destroying it, to ebay i will go, thank you for helping me find that part.I already have every other piece of wood, every barrel band, every swing swivel screw and band screw and woodscrew imaginable. Here is a proper photo of what i got from PrestigiousWoodStocks by the way: |

If you can return that goofy stock I have brand new #4 military stocks for sale with all the metal on them. If you search an older Goosic posting, "everything but the kitchen sink and more" you can see pictures of what I have. Actually, I have complete # 4 sets, military including butt stock.
