Not to embarrass anyone but I was perusing an old post about identifying the history of a No. 4 rifle and someone posted that it wasn't issued to any British unit because it had no royal cypher. The royal cypher had been dispensed with by 1936 except for a few No.1 rifles that BSA continued to build until mid WWII and wouldn't be seen on any production No.4's.
