My landlord in Germany told me very few difference between a cat and a rabbit.

A rabbit does not say "meow" and cat does not have a gamey taste.

How about all the Lee lee Metford carbines and riles form the Boer war that the Boers "customized"?

Where do these fit in?

Paddy;
You are referring to "roof rabbit"?
weren't a lot of rabbits round during the later part of the war..so they turned to chicken chow meow aka: roof rabbit
(See-I know all kindsa useless stuff!)

Ah alternative meats, I tend  to avoid them though I once had a highly suspect burger in the Phillipines. I'm not sure, arf, what creature, arf, it was, arf, made of, arf, but  I suspect, arf, that it, arf, was not, arf, a cow.

Oh, well! That's different! Those are 'historical' modifications. Wink

Saw a documentary on invasive species in Australia.
They showed a group of elderly Abo women gather on the edge of town and lure feral cats up close, then bash their little brains out with a long handled club (knobkerrie?).
They then roasted the cats on a spit, hair hide and all.
Apparently this was an old custom since otherwise the older Abo ladies got little fresh meat in their diet.

If I want to cut an Enfield into a sporter, it's mine and I'll do what I wish. Same goes for what I think of those that cut and sport theirs....I don't give a rat's azz.

I think gunboards is more for the anal attitudes.

The suggestion was to have a separate section for spoterizing just to avoid the controvesry and meanless debates.  Other than "What was it?" there is not much point posting in the collectors section, it no longer has collector value or interest.  My old deer gun was built on a stripped BRNO mauser action I picked up. It  no longer is a VZ-24 it is a Mannlicher stocked carbine built on a Mauser action.

just my 2 cents - i should think that those with sported rifles might get better answers to their questions if in a specific section dedicated to that and those that appreciate it ,

and not to be confrontational but.......
"I think gunboards is more for the anal attitudes."
........some of us do visit there without issues for the most part ,

I've been reading this thread and thought I would throw my 2 cents into the fray.  I'm personally fine with changing the subforum name.  Some of us kinda have a lot of fun finding the misfit enfields and getting them back into onto the range.
While I would rather have complete rifles, I can pick up two or three sporters for the price of one really good condition SMLE (of which I have a few myself).  From my perspective, I enjoy it.  I don't butcher the rifles any more than when I find them, and basically clean them up, replace what parts need replacing and get them going again.
