I would like to suggest a book review page for books linked to Lee Enfields, such as the world wars, diaries of participants etc.
There are a lot of good books out there, and probably a few crap ones as well; could be nice to have suggestions and reviews from members. Zed

At the end of last year I read two books about Dunkirk. My choice of subject was inspired by seeing the SMLE that was recovered from the Dunkirk beach after over 70 years immersed in the English Channel. It was a bit of history that I realised I had not read much about!
First book was: Dunkirk Retreat to Victory. by Major General Julian Thompson 300 pages (quite small print) This was a very complete and engaging analysis of the campaign leading up to the retreat. Lots of good information; very well written and well researched. Good photos and maps of the battle area. The French come in for a lot of criticism (always a plus). A very interesting and complete picture of a battle that puts into context the famous small boats etc. Definitely worth a look. The second book was: Dunkirk. The Men They Left Behind. by Sean Longden 530 pages (medium print) This book is the other side of the coin; and tells the story of all the chaps that fort the last stands to allow their comrades to escape. Capture, starvation, march to Germany and the start of 5 years in prison. Lots of interesting info about this side of the story that was supressed by the press during and after wartime. A few good photos. While it was interesting to read about these unfortunate ones; I thought that the book was a bit long in places; as all the prisoner's have similar tales to tell. A story that should be known; and worth the read if you have time on your hands, but could be edited a bit more in my opinion. Zed
