Which Parker Hale sight should I be looking for to put on my Ishapore 2A1? Also, how difficult a project will this be?

The best I can come up with is the PH5A but beyond that, I have no more info as far as mounting.

Its not the PH5C that is for the No4 rifle & your Ishy is a No1. The 5C mounts to places that don't exist on a No1.

What you need is a PH5A which fits the SMLE, or No1 mkIII.

Attaching is easy, you get the 2 longer screws for it (check it comes with them & the coil spring you'll use to replace them), you replace the rear trigger guard screw & the safety dumbbell spring screw. Then you remove the washer, which you won't need. now you take the PH5A apart (one spring loaded screw) & bolt the bottom (mount plate) to mount it. The coil spring sits where the dumbbell & washer were. Now you offer up the mount plate & attach both of the the bolts semi-tight. The bottom fitting is an open hook so it just slides in over the bolt at the rear of the trigger guard.

Now the sight has to be aligned in 3 axis, this is done by using small shims to angle the mount & washers at the trigger guard screw. What you're trying to do is make the windage at exactly 90 degrees to the bore so that windage adjustments ONLY move windage no vertical or diagonal moment at all. You're also doing the same for elevation it ONLY goes up or down with no sideways component to it.

It sounds harder than it is, the shape of the sight shows up any tilt or angle easily & you just mess with it to get it right.

Now finally tighten both screws & check, it's still aligned, if no go back & mess with it a bit more.

The 2A1 is a 7.62 rifle, not a .303, The PH5A is calibrated for .303 Mk7 ball, so you wont be able to directly dial in the ranges on the range scale. Out to about 275 yds the difference is minimal, so you can just use them anyway, but you will be able to use the vernier scales as it isn't caliber dependent for longer range shots.

If you need a source for a PH5A I have one for you, but its in New Zealand, let me know if you want to get in touch with him. Its probably worth the trouble as they aren't inexpensive, but they are only about 1/2~ 2/3 of the price they fetch here to collectors.

Thanks for the incredible wealth of info. I would indeed appreciate being put in touch with your source. The quality and cost for Parker Hale sights here leave much to be desired.

I´ve heard, that Ishis shoot well. But the U notch and short sight line … I think I want a PH 5A, too …

;-)

( and I want a replacement mag, too - yes, I´ve heard that each mag has to be fitted )

Any hint´s, where to start looking?

he!!o again!

The front sight on my Ishapore 2A1 is definitely canted. And it seems very wide!

The measurements:

the front sight is 2,4 mm ( 0.0945" )wide on the upper sight, which "just" fits the rear sight notch.

Is this normal?

Height is 11,17 mm ( 0,440" ), over all, top of sight to base of dovetail, measured on the rear side, where it´s higher than on the front side.

Could somebody please tell me, if this is normal, which "Number" of front sight this is, and how replacement sights are numbered (  "+", "-", "++" or numbers )? I am sure, there were different front sight heights, to adjust the gun to the issued ammo.

Thanks in advance, Hermann

The blade is the same in all of them, the height difference is in the base! It was done this way to give the same sight picture whichever you had.
The range is from
-0.06" through 0.0 to +.03" in 0.015" increments IIRC each increment moves the POI 2.7" @ 100 yds or 0.069" & 25 yds.
Whatever you currently have is stamped on the top of the base. ".30" or "-.60" & so on.
Be aware there are several TYPES of "Lee-Enfield Front sights" available, make sure you get the correct type as well as the right height.
