& it was worth it!
I finally found a 5-round Santa Fe mag for the Goobermint Sporter, "Bert"! For $27, shipped! (I think I need the eye patch & the parrot back). In really nice condition all original bluing, just a little fine "florets" of surface rust on the bottom, probably from hand contact. No pitting though, its soaking in a little oil overnight to penetrate & soften & I'll give it a rub down tomorrow. Dropped right in the No5, it even fed flawlessly without having any fitting! It never fails to amaze me how this rifle photographs! In one image the wood is a really close match & in the next they're totally non-matching! |

My Dad's No4 Mk1 Parker Hale had a PH front site, a whiteline recoil pad and a 5 round magazine. All original. I used that magazine in a Lee Enfield I had put in a Bishop stock. Shot a ton of deer with that rifle! I gave my Dad's to a nephew this spring to kind of pass the torch. I debated whether to put the 5 rounder back in. Then I thought, it belongs to the rifle, my Dad, nephews grandpa had touch the magazine. It was just the right thing. My point of this story is all my Enfields now have 10 round magazines, and I'm kind of getting used to the feel!
