he!!o All,
Thanks for allowing me into the forum.
I have a sportified ERA P-14, that I hunted with and also did some Lee loader reloading on the .303 British.

I came here to educate myself in the Lithgow No.1 Mk III version before purchasing one.
I want to add one to complete the Rifle /Bayonet combo that I collect.

While looking for one, I see that there are some FTR's and other configurations I will need to school myself in. I want to know exactly what to look for and consider it a Good One before spending my money.

All matching serial numbers is good.
Action, Barrel, bolt nose-cap (mostly, some un-numbered) & sometimes magazine.
FTR is not a bad thing, many older guns were rebuilt so don't take that as a bad thing.
Beware of anything "DP" marked", "Z" Suffixes is a bad thing too.

Welcome aboard Phil, you've come to the right place as we have some very knowledgeable members here.  I know I've learned a lot from them.  Shamu gave you some very good advice as there are a lot of 'bitsers' out there, stick to all matching numbers,

Slight correction if I may FTR (Factory Thorough, [not Through] Repair) is return to 80% (or better) like new.Star
Its still a god thing for older guns, my 1914 has one.

Welcome to the forum.
If you are looking for a Lithgow made Lee Enfield, as Shamu has stated, matching numbers and originality are key.
However, you should do some research prior to purchase.
A company in the USA, called J. Jorinco, bought up the surplus stock of riles and part's. The complete, matching number rifles are probably ok.
Some were incomplete rifles, that built up from parts. Which can be problematic ! They numbered them differently, so pay attention to the details.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Ah the infamous (& much libeled) JJ&Co.
Quick primer.
J.J. Jovino bought out Lithgow arsenal's factory.
The imported many complete, factory made SMLES.Those are fine, I have one.
Then the got bins of parts & had a smith build them, those are OK.
Then they just started flinging parts together. those are "highly Variable" & should be avoided unless you're already an SMLE Guru.
IIRC I posted a thread on here about all the gory details down in "Info for new owners".
