Prices on all reloading supplies are going up in America too. The components from Finland are much more expensive than others though. Lapua brass is my favorite but I can buy a lot more Remington brass for less. 20 years ago we used to get a lot of Norma brass which was made well but didn't last many loads.

The USA has an advantage in the fact there is a home manufacture/market ALL the Brit supplies for rifle ammunition are imported from either the continent, USA or Finland . We have been struggling to get primers because the US manufacturers are geared up to supply the government and exports are taking second place.

Tony , We are haveing problems too.. Not as bad as Yall are but you still have to be at the counter when they put the primers out and grab what you can....
I was at Cabellas trying to get primers and waiting and looking at the last box of small rifle primers when a guy walks up down the counter and askes for them and gets them , Kinda pissed me off but what can you do when the salesmen are to lazy and too stupide to see who is in line/waiting.... they didnt like what I had to say... I think they also profile people and wait on them accordingly... I cant help it if I had my work uniform on and that other but head looked like he just got out his Bently.....

I know the feeling! I was lucky the other day and got the last box of 100 primers on the shelf. The gun guy has been waiting 6 weeks for a delivery of primers powder and bullets. Seems to be plenty of shogun ammo around though.

Thanks guys for all the great information. I am a relatively new owner and I have been wanting to reload since about 10 years ago. IA friend of mine just got a machine and I am getting the stuff to start reloading my own ammo.
I have been slowly buying ammo for my stock. I have been buying all brands, Rem, Fed, and some import rounds. I have found imports from Slovenia and Africa. Have you had any problems with reloading the imported casings? I notice some of the imports are 174 grains instead of 180 like remington.I have not seen the Hornady ammo yet. My experience with Bass Pro Shops has been like yours at Cabelas... absolutely no customer service. I have never been greeted at the counter by someone there until I asked for help. I stick to the small shops if I want any service. |

It's not a question of where they were made (at least not mainly), but of the priming system being used.
One system has an easily removable & replacable primer. The size is different from the other kind as well. For that reason what reloaders call primers are usually in that size.
The other system is re-loadable, but slowly harder to do & needs different sized primers as well. There is no interchangability between the 2 systems.
The easiest way to tell is to shine a loght down inside the neck of a fired case & look for the flash hole in the base of the case.
A single big round hole in the center is "reloadable". If there are 2 smaller holes side by side then it's not normally concidered reloadable.
Now many countries standardized on one system only as it makes supply & manufacture easier, so to that extent country MAY give a hint as to the type used. It's not foolproof though.
The single-hole type is called Boxer & the 2 -hole type is Berdan BTW.
174 Gr is the "normal" bullet weight for a .303 British & the 180 is a "sporting" bullet. For most purposes they are completely interchangable as there are 7,000 grains to a pound you'll see that 3/7000ths of a pound is really nothing.
