I just want to know if squirrel hunting with the .303 counts?
I've seen the future and I don't like it.

Well hey ! I bin huntin here for alot of years, & I keep going back to my L/E. Tried, true & tested!!I own some 16 shootin irons @ present, & I've NEVER found anything as dependable or accurate as my L/E's are.
My favorite cartridge wieght is: 150 gr. I find anything over that drops too much, for the way I shoot.Plus, that wieght will takeANYTHING on this continent, & it STAYS hit!
I've got ALOT of deer & moose over the years to prove it!
I've got Elk, Moose, Deer, Black Bear, Wolf, Jacks & Cottons ON my northern property(partridge, too).I find 30.06 too heavy for deer (some argue that point - specially my Yank buds). But the truth is evident. The hunt club I used to belong to -to a man - eventually obtained L/E riflrs (sported) based on my successes. If you go to ANY hunt camp here - chances are you'll find @ least 1 L/E, everytime!
Glad I found this forum.Hope to here from ya!

G'Day!
I'm back. Thought I'd expound a tad re: enfield & cartridges.@ present - I only have three L/E 's.A service rifle, 1916,(B.S.A.co)III*.This one was @ VIMY RIDGE, in WWI.I've got targets here that people don't believe.100 yards - sliding sights - consistent BULL-THRU THE CROSS LINES ! Again, with a 150 gr.
The second ia a 1916 I Mk III, sporterized by Parker Hale, but still with slide sights.(This one made by Enfield)Both are unbelievably accurate.
The third is a L/E pattern.(During WWII there was ALOT of contractors pumping these things out - cause the Brits left about 330,000 of the good ones lying on the beach @ Dunkirque!!)Thisparticular one was made by "Churchill" in London. It's got a scope, with a Parker Hale mount. It's a sport - but as with all later production types, it's accuacy leaves alot to be desired (in MY opinion).
I'm just going to clean it up a little, & sell it.(I don't like scopes, N E way.)
I used to have 9 L/E's @ one time, the collection waxes & wanes, over the years.
I've also got a 1853 pattern Enfield (black powder.577 Cal) stamped 1862.I bin re-enacting U.S.Civil War (IN
the states)since '81, so I use it for that. But I do live fire & a little hunting with it, too.Once you get used to the way it shoots & handles, you'll be fairly accurate inside 75 yards. If you've never shot black powder, I think your REALLY missing something! It can be a real hoot!
I'm giving up on Civil War re-enacting(can't see trapsing all over the states anymore - when I've got all this property up north, here)Besides, @ my age, when your on a re-enactment - the food gets a little worse, the digestion gets a little tougher, the ground gets a little harder, the sun gets a little hotter - every year, know what I mean ?
I'm on market for another service rifle again.I'll obtain a '42 Long Branch No.4.(I got WWII kit, I'll help out my legion colour party, once I get it).
Well mate, guess I've strained your eyes enough.Keep your powder dry, & keep shootin!!

Never strain these Old eyes! George! Not with talk of Enfields I've always found that the younger generation over here get a real shck when they see what a Enfield is capable of doing in the hands of a good shooter (my problem is finding good shooters these days  as my days have come & gone)

I was under the impression Oz had some pretty "draconian" firearm laws.Have I bin misinformed ?
Have U done N E black powder ?

On another topic - I noticed Eric wuz askin about M-1 Garands. I dropped him a line re:my experience with them.Turns out you & I have the same dislikes on 'em.

George they've had a couple of goes at restiricting various types of Fire arm over here .Thing was they left a few Loop holes ! It just made it harder on the average shooter to own & shoot Semi auto rifles /shotguns & pump action shot guns  (this never affected us Pro shooters ) So far as handguns went there was a ban put on anything heavier than a 357 unless you shot Cowboy or metalic sil  (I kept both my .44mags & a mate kept his 45acp for metal sil .....don't ask ) Barrel lenghts were changed to a min of 4inches for revolvers & 5inches for semi autos  max mag capasity  10 rounds !

The funny part was the prices they paid in the buy back ! I was buying up el cheapo .22 semis the moment I got a whisper of what was comming for about $10.00 a throw & got up to a $100 for em in the buy back it was great ! Just think the Anti gun lobby was paying dearly to get their own way ! I even sent them a copy of the check I got out of it with a thankyou letter for the profit they made me ! Strange thing is I never got a reply

Yeah I still have nightmares about that M1!!! Kombie nver misses a oppertunity to bait me about it !

Don't feel bad.  I as a kid dreamed of being a shapr shooter.  a visit to the optromitrist(sp?) quickly put an end to that.  And i ain't that old either.  If I wear these darn contacts I can get my vision to 20/30 in my left eye and 20/40 in my right eye.  Otherwise it's 20/50 in both eyes, with glasses I might add.  Glasses do no good either.

I've seen the future and I don't like it.

Yeah I know that feelin!! Years of night shooting has taken it's toll on my eyes ! I think the thing I curse the most is my loss of hearing through years of not wearing ear protection ! I can not stress to new Blokes coming into the Industry, enough for the need to wear ear protection when their out at work ! You start firing 50rnds + off a night 6/7 nights per week over the years & all of a sudden you realise your as deaf as a coot ! I went to get my hearing  checked a few years back when I realised I was going deaf & the Guy just shook his head when he asked what I did for a living ! As he pointed out the damage had been done & all I could do was save what hearing I had left !
