Got a smattering of range time in this morning.  Working up the rifle, getting the scope set up starting at 50 yards. I moved out to 100 yards and adjusted the scope some more until I was confident I could keep some tight groups at the 200 yard mark. The first shot at the 200 yard mark was one inch from the bottom of the red. The second shot was just touching the bottom of the red. Shots 3,4,and five dipped below the red. I never moved the scope from the original aiming mark. The temperature was 94° humidity was 15 percent and a headwind of 2mph. I had to end my shooting here because as I squeezed the trigger on the sixth shot, I heard a loud SNAP, followed by two very different click noises.  I waited and then slowly eased the bolt backwards and looked. No marks on the primer and when I removed the bolt i could hear the main spring rattling inside the bolt. It was in three separate pieces when I got it apart. Needless to say, I did get it sighted in and I got five rounds down range to the 200 yard mark. I will try again in two weeks ,but for now,its time to put a new main spring back into the bolt.

It sucked when it happened, I'll give you that. I have ten spare main springs for just this situation though.  My other  concern was the firing pin tip. I filed it down too flat that left it with a sharp edge and I pierced a primer. I had to smooth and round it out. It leaves a nice little dimple now. I forgot to mention the measurements.  The up and down measurement was 1.87" while the left right spread was 0.745". I used 168grn .308 BTHP SMK with 41.7grns of IMR4064,primed with Federal #215 primers. A duplicate of the NATO match M852 cartridge.

Looks very promising, that’s under 1 MOA.  Is this a 2A barrel?

Yes it is. I am using the inner band as well to keep it locked down just like the No1 rifles.  The five shots shown were after I had shot at two other targets.  Ten shots at 50 yards and ten shots at 100 yards. The initial 50 yard target was just to get the rifle to print. I forgot to bore sight it prior to getting to the range.

Certainly off to a good start!

I’ve had good success bore sighting at 200 yards.  I don’t bother shooting at 50 or 100 yards anymore.  Just center the target visually looking thru the bore and adjust the sights to the desired POA.  Usually gets you very close and certainly on paper.

Nice shooting, too bad about the spring though.
The light colored cheek piece against the dark stock looks quite nice!
