I have quite a few LE's and I greatly enjoy shooting, reloading, and hunting with all of them. I have a few that I picked up as sporters and brought most back to original military condition. Well I also picked up an unused Lithgow JJCO receiver, got one of the unused Sarco barrels, a new bolt, etc. It's not matching, won't ever be, but I would like to set it up to be scoped as my eyes are getting older and hunting with a No1 isn't as easy as it used to be. I've seen some of the mounts out there and they seem to sit a little high for my tastes. I'm looking for a lower profile rail that can be drilled and tapped to the receiver. I found a rifle on gunbroker that seemed to have a nice set up, as it appeared to have a weaver type rail drilled and tapped to the receiver. Has anyone had any success with a set up like that? Does anyone know what type of rail would sit low to the receiver and work well?
Thanks

the weavers and PH side mounted mounts work very well, if you don`t mind drilling an otherwise good receiver.

I've tried looking all over for both the Weaver and the PH mounts and can't find them anywhere.

Wish I could help you, I have a Weaver side mount that came off a No5 , but unfortunately if I was to send it down to you it may not make it to you. I know I can`t get anything out of the States rifle scope related. If you think you can figure how to receive such an item, let me know.

You could probably send an aluminum jig used for making 45 deg picture frame cuts??? Two or three holes drilled in the side to secure the jig to a work bench???

shiloh. If I have to send anything up to the great white north. I put medical equipment or wheelchair parts on the declaration paperwork. Or in certain situations, antique brass/copper buttons. Something like sights or scope parts would fall under medical microscope parts or vintage viewing apparatus bits and pieces in my book...

I had to mail a saddle scabbard to my uncle in Saskatchewan. We put a couple of old canes in it and declared it as a vintage storage unit for disability supplies.

If it is a gun related part, getting it across the border requires alot of paperwork and patience. Numrich and a few other sellers of gun parts will not ship across Canadian borders because of all the bureaucratic buIIsh*t involved. I bought a rifle magazine from a gentleman in Sussex England. To get it to me here in the stated without any of the aforementioned B.S., he stated that it was a Vintage Metal Box with extra metal bits on the declaration paperwork. I got to me at just under 7 days. The next magazine I bought from him, it was decided to have declared that it was a vintage military rifle magazine. Six weeks later and alot of paperwork that I ended up paying for later and the magazine showed up. I had to also sign off on it that it was received by the actual buyer and present identification as well.

Mtnd203 I went through my parts bin and found a Parker Hale scope mount for a No1 that attaches to the top of the charging bridge and receiver. It has Parker Hale RAHS.3 1" scope rings. If you want it, please PM for the particulars.

A little late to this thread, but in my travels I found these "No Drill" scope rails for No1 and No4 Enfields. These maybe a suitable solution for you. I have never inspected these or used them so have no first hand experience, but its better then drilling into your 75 year old rifle. |
