Picked up my M1 Garand Yesterday. It is a service grade condition rifle but in excellent shape. Springfield receiver with a Winchester bolt. In the deal I picked up the following as well. One Springfield un-issued bayonet, two bandoliers complete with 8 round feeder clips, 200 rds, of empty winchester match grade brass, and the original FM 23-5 Manual. Cookie Monster |

hoadie, I hear ya bud!! Are you right or left handed? Which ever hand you use to load, make sure that is the side the first round is on in the 8 round feeder clips it will help with the M1 thumb, you may still get them but not as often. My Dad used the M1 when he was in the Army he warned me about those and told me that!! Trick!!! Cookie Monster PS: Thanks |

I never thought it would be a problem again, cause I sold mine a few back. But as I was tellin Allan, circumstances arose last weekend...& I now remember one of the reasons I sold it !

hoadie, Does Allen have a M1 Garand? If so past that info to him. To have ones thumb slammed between the bolt facing and the breech of a Garand is not a very good feeling and should be avoided if possible. With out ones thumb at 100% he or she may not be able to properly hold a cold adult beverage. Cookie Monster Edited by Cookie Monster - April 25 2006 at 6:08am |

Well the unfortunate ones must resort to the Martini Henry's, Ruger #1's or other single shot weapons Cookie Monster Edited by Cookie Monster - April 25 2006 at 7:50am |

Alas, the carnage wreaked by the M - 1 wasn't always on it's enemy...It's about the only one I,ve encountered that likes to "bite the hand that feeds !"
(Even animals rarley do that ! & they'd only do it ONCE with me!!!) Fortunatly, our young apprentice (Allan) has been spared the caranage...& thus has all digits functional! Hoadie |

hoadie, Negative No hear um "gwasshoppa". Speaking of the ole Garand did some testing on her today. Checked her for throat erosion and head space. Throat gauge read .0005ths and Head space was ok!!! Cookie Monster Edited by Cookie Monster - April 25 2006 at 10:26am |

This info is mainly for our Canadian members. You MIGHT not be aware of this, so I thought I'd mention it.The Lee Enfield, & the M - 1 Garand are SPECIFICALLY exempt from Canada's magazine laws.
I have that in writing from the lawyer @ firearms center. I've seen alot of people put rivets through their magazines to max out with 5 rounds.Don't do it ! I've known this info since the law was passed.I've bin tryin to tell folks, but they keep doin it anyway. Hoadie |
