Hey people. I got a chance to purchase a couple of No1 Mk3 sporters. One has a 25" barrel and a handguard on top up to the rear site. The other has a 22" barrel with a PH hooded front site. Oddly, both have 5 Rd magazines. I've only seen pictures so far, but both look in good shape. Seller wants $300 and $350 respectively. I don't know much about this model. Thoughts?

Thanks guys! I may call and talk to him, mention that as collectors, they are not worth the same as rifles original furniture. If I can get them for $450 for the pair, I might take them. I recently took a No4 Mk1 on trade that turned out to be a lemon, now a parts rifle. That's the trouble with not being able to fire at a range before buying.

Look at the prices for furniture & fittings on e-pay. No1 stuff is running out & getting scarce (& so expensive), then factor that in as well.
I had to spend almost US$70.oo to get a full upper & lower handguard for mine!

I would keep these as sporters and hunters. Use the 21" barreled one as a bush buster and probably put a walnut cheek piece on the full length one with existing handguard up to the rear site. Then maybe add an Addley Presion mount.

Seriously, don't go over $300 for the pair.

Shamu. Great minds think alike. I emailed the gentleman, including my reasons what I think would be a fair price (they've been for sale for a couple of months) and offered him $300 CAD for the pair. I'll see what he says!

Over here in Alberta you wouldn't get them for $300 for both.  I've seen chopped ones go for over $300 at auction.
$250 seems about bottom now.  (After all, if they have mags the mag alone goes for $70  or more these days.)

Pukka. You are probably right. I called and had a good conversation with the gentleman. He doesn't shoot or hunt and just wants to get rid of the rifles. I really don't need another Sporter (or two) but want to be fair, so I offered $450 for both. He said he'd think about it and let me know. In Manitoba, these rifles probably average around $250 a piece. Maybe $300 if in excellent shape. No4 Mk1 sporters are higher.

The gentleman called back and was pretty stuck on $650. That's fine. Their his rifles and as such, is entitled to ask whatever price he wishes!
