he!!o, I'm new to the forum and have a question about the serial number of my No 4 Mk 1.

All of the serial numbers match: receiver, bolt, and magazine.  I've looked on Iam Skennerton's site but I'm still not clear.

Receiver: PC 26849 1/45.  The bolt and magazine have the same PC 26849 number stamped.

My assumption based on what I've read on the Skennerton site is that it was manufactured at ROF Fazakerly.

I'm hoping that someone can shed some light on this.

Miles

Howdy from Phoenix Arizona
Yes, it is a Fazackerly made Enfield.
The five factories serial numbers are with or without prefix numbers:
Maltby: Starting with a 1=12345
Fazackerly: Starting with a 2=23456
BSA: Starting with a 3= 34567
Savage: C for Chicopee Falls=12C3456
Long Branch: L for Long Branch= 23L4567

Welcome to the forum.

In Skennertons book, The Lee Enfield Story, he has a photo of a Fazakerley No. 4 Mk I rifle about five hundred serial numbers prior to yours.  On the left side of the receiver is “2\45  PC 26277”, indicating a production date of Feb 1945.  I’m not sure at what point in the production the serial number was stamped on the action body, but possibly prior to when the Month/Year was stamped on.   Not all factories indicated the month of manufacture, typically only the year.

Your rifle is definitely a Fazakerley produced No. 4.

welcome , glad you joined us , post some photos in a new thread - you wiol get ;lots of info

FAZ made both the mkI and mk2 rifles , 1/45 would most likely be a mkI but i dont have my references handy , you should be able to ID from skennertons site but scranton did better with serial numbers and dates in easy to use tables ,

when you mentioned skennertons 'site' it made me nostalgic for back when he had the enfield forums that you could spend all night and not read everything posted in a single day ,
