he!!o all glad to be here, own a matching numbers battle config 1942 Lee Enfield No4 Mk1* savage, been shooting with it for 6 months with excellent grouping at 100, 200 and 300 yards with battle open sight.

I'm from the UK originally, served in the British Army and Police, in my youth I was in shooting competitions with the army cadet force using the LE 22LR config then moving up to the 303 British. Ive always wanted to own an LE and when the chance came I didn't hesitate.

Welcome from Atlanta, GA.

I can’t recall what year Savage started making the No. 4, but 1942 should be fairly early in production.  Does it have a replacement barrel (usually done at Fazakerley and stamped with a F##, the two digit year of manufacture)?  Savage made a lot of two groove barrels.

The rifle has been through a FTR (Factory Thorough Repair) at Fazakerley, so it may have a new 5 groove barrel installed.  The barrel should be stamped on the chamber reinforce, but use caution if you remove the action from the forend, don’t pry it free at the muzzle, this will crush the wood bearing surface with the action body at the sear pin lugs (draws).  The fit of the forend to the action body is critical for accuracy.

Don’t intend to remove the wood unless it becomes a problem. Yes I knew it was an [F] FTR which is a good thing I guess. I will try and take a photo of the inside of the barrel at some point.
