Hi mate,
I know it's a late reply but you can go to Boyds and get a nice sporter stock set if you want make more sportier looking. You can also get scope bases from S & K or on eBay from a Canadian dude that makes some nice mounts, I can't remember the business' name. Cheers Jorge

The S&K is whats known as a "no drill no tap" mount, meaning you don't drill or tap the receiver so it can always be returned to original condition.
Swapping wood is more complex than removing one & bolting the other on though. There is always a bunch of skilled hand fitting involved if you want an accurate gun. |

I'd leave it original, especially if it shoots well as is. I've hunted with my military #1 MkIII*. These rifles, both #1 & #4, make great sporting rifles as issued, IMHO. If you want a scope, stick to the no drill models, like Shamu mentioned. That way nothing permanent is done, and they are usually cheaper and easier to mount. Just my 2 cents :-D |

There's actually a "Gooberment Model Sporter" already made if you want one, the No5 "Jungle Carbine", go get one & scope it with the S&K.
