No 1 Mk 111 with Central No 4 sight

   Recently I picked up a Central No 4 target sight, and I couldn't think of a better place to install it than my 1912 No 1 Mk 111 Enfield with magazine cutoff.  No modifications were needed to the stock with it being a simple bolt on mounting plate. All in all a nice addition to my Enfield target rifle collection.

	Looks great. A work mate just gave me one and I was hoping you could give me some advice regarding the installation I am trying to install it to my mk3* but im having some trouble. Im not sure if the mounting plate i have is for the mk3 or the no.4. (it says no.4 on it, but im not sure if that is referring to the sight model, or the mounting plate variant. the back side of the plate has the marking "PAT 25212 12-11-35 102697 3-12-36") Things seem to line up okay, though the scre hole for the rear trigger guard screw seems a little misaligned, and the safety spring screen doesnt hold the plate very securely when fully cranked down. dos this might require special screws that come with it or is it 100% installable with the screws already in the rifle? Would greatly appreciate if you could tell me how things worked or you

	For the BSA No9 type sight, which is a similar design. I needed longer screws.

	YAREYARE. The central sight mounting plate requires the correct screws which are longer than what the rifle came with. The no4 on the plate and sight refers to the model of the sight, not the rifle. There are a couple of different mounting plates. I believe the later version is meant to fit both the no4 and no1 rifles. I could be wrong on that but I’m fairly sure that’s what I’ve been told before. I don’t own a no4 so I can’t check. The later plate looks like the plate TWEETS has. Quite often that plate won’t fit on a no1 mk3 without relieving timber off the rear side of the fore end. There’s another plate like shown in my photo here that fits the no1 mk3 and will normally go straight on with zero modifications. Another thing to be aware of is the adjustment in the plate itself. The bottom hole where the rear trigger guard screw goes through actually has a small insert in it the screws in and out. That is used to adjust the mounting plate to make sure it’s sitting vertically in line with the rifle. If it’s not adjusted correctly, you will generate a windage error as you raise and lower your elevation adjustment.

	I also meant to mention the safety. I see TWEETS appears to have removed the entire safety assembly from the rifle. All you need to do is remove the safety spring, dumbbell or flat type, doesn’t matter which type was on your rifle. The central sight came with a small coil spring that fits between the mounting plate and the safety and takes place of the original safety spring. The safety will work as per normal with the central sight fitted.

	A bit of a necro-thread but, as I've just committed to buying one I've been doing some research. Mine is coming with the 6-hole variable eyepiece (not shown). There are 3 mounting plates available. One for the No1 One for the No4 & a Universal which fits either/both. Anyone have a copy of the manual? I Believe they come in 2 thread pitches for elevation & windage, a 1/2 minute or a 1/4 minute. Does anyone know the trick for telling them apart (except for shooting them)? Yes, I know that's not the original screw. This is the "Universal" plate. Apparently the grooves are each individual, the sight will ONLY attach when correctly positioned so the matching grooves in the plate are aligned with the matching ones in the sight in the one "correct" alignment.
