    Posted: September 25 2009 at 12:59am
Folks,

I have an opportunity to buy what the seller says are No.4 Mk.1 spike bayonets. The only description he gives is what I think are manufacturers' marks:

P.S.K.
N.67
35Z
P
NS
S
N.30

Might any of these be correct for a 1941 Long Branch No.4 Mk,1*? If not, what should I be looking for?

Thanks for your help.

Mike

Thanks for the help, folks, Cookie, although I appreciate it very much, please don't go to any trouble researching the issue. I came across a Long Branch No.4 MkII bayonet and bought it. I figured, how wrong could it be?

Hoadie,

I paid US$25 for it. I really don't know whether or not that's a good price, but I was impressed with the seller's Web site, (http://www.simpsonltd.com/) which I found via Google.

The bayonet arrived yesterday and it's exactly as they described it. Their service was excellent and very professional. I have no affiliation with these people, but I'm happy to tell others of my experience.

I matched my "43" LONG BRANCH with a LB bayonet.  The B nestles inside the L.  I have found them fairly easy to locate at shows etc.

you did exactly the right thing , a LB in mkI* would be same vintage as the mkII bayo , not that it matters at all as all of the no4 spike bayos would be 'correct' depending on who was issued the rifle and when , i like the idea of an LB rifle haveing an LB bayo tho :>}

Correctamundo!
MkII refers to the Bayonet version, not the Rifle.

The Long Branch bayonet is marked L over B and may or may not have a plastic scabbard..  Like this one I just picked up for $10.Smile

You can pick up bayonets at various online stores. Check out the links section, I think there are a few listed in there.

shop - they are out there and the prices range from $15-25 in USD , there are four variations - mkI , mkI* , mkII , mkIII , with the mkI being the harder to find and better machined - quality degraded as need increased , the mkIII is a crude item
