I'm at my wit's end! I can't seem to figure out how to re-install the extractor leaf spring. The leaf spring is very strong. Is there a YouTube video out there?
I disassembled the bolt head to clean out old cosmolene.
I accomplished this task with other British No. 1 and No. 4 Enfield's, but this time is different. |

Capture the bolt head between two blocks of wood in a vice by its tenon. Use a piece of strong monofilament or string that can be used to pull the spring clear of the extractor as the mechanism is set into position. Pull the string by hand perpendicular to the vise jaws and it will remain steady. Very lightly dressing both the spring face and extractor contact surfaces where they meet and so that they're smooth and a dab of STP to aid assembly when doing by hand can make it easier. Theirs also a projection on the other side of the spring that need to interface with a hole in the bolt head. Make sure all that area is clean of foreign matter prior to assembly like you've already done.
