I took my brand new and shiny ten round magazine and made it a five round magazine, without cutting, grinding,or sanding on it. How did I do it you ask?
I had a positive brain fart moment. I used a ribbon of 22 gauge steel and form fit it to the inside of the magazine. The following photos show what I've accomplished. It works too! This is going to be my hunting magazine so I used some two ton epoxy to solidify it to the inside. Beats the crud out of doing what I've been doing... After everything is said and done, drop the follower back in like normal and POOF! Five round magazine... |

I eyeballed it. Just kept bending the metal until it looked right. This configuration holds exactly five rounds. The follower spring sits flush on the plate holding everything down without any movement.

I guess my quest for fabricating a 5 shot magazine isn't really focused on the capacity, but on the "balance point, feel in the hand" while walking through the bush, and a sleeker look on sporters while still maintaining the destinct Enfield magazine look. Full wood Battle Enfields are much heavier than sporters, and for me, have a different "balance point".

Couldn't agree with you more. The only reason I did this one is based mainly off of aesthetics however. The No5 Mk1 and it's current configuration does not"look" good with any other magazines. I've tried every one I have, including both Santa Fe mags and the five that I made. Alot of it has to do with the way the rifle looks with that magazine. My PH looks great with the PH magazine I made. The Santa Fe Special looks great with the Santa Fe magazine. My highly sporterized No4 looks exceptionally well with the flush mount five round magazine. They all feel right as well,in their respective rifles.
