I have noticed that a few of my live WW2 rounds of .303 are in poor condition.
How is the best way to neutralise them safely. Remove the cordite (or powder) and bullet etc.
Thanks in advance!

If it’s a few rounds, just pull the bullet and burn up the powder (or Cordite).  You can then chamber the empty case and snap the primer.  I’ve very slowly pushed the live primer out of the case in a sizing die with no problems. If it’s Berdan, you will need to snap it in the rifle.

Easier said than done with cordite!
I'd carefully cut the cases about 1/2 way along with a pipe cutter, pull the halves apart carefully then burn the charge, insert the short case & snap the primer.
The bullet can be pulled the hard way if you want to save it.

Shamu, I’ve never had trouble doing this. I use a collet type puller. I don’t recall having trouble getting the Cordite strands out…

Ok, thanks for the info. I was considering the pipe cutter idea, as no heat generated if done slowly.
These rounds are crimped, so may be tougher in the puller.
I'll maybe have a go at the weekend.

IMO you've been very lucky!
Between the compression form the charging then sizing & the card washer its always given me grief!

If you're pulling bullets that are stubborn try the old shove 'em in a bit deeper with a seating die then pull them" trick.

^^^^^ Yes, that’s how I do it, breaks the seal making pulling the bullet easier.

Well, I got to thinking about the Mk 7 pull downs I’ve done.  It may have only been 7z loads, not Cordite.  The Cordite pull downs I did were .577-450 Martini Kynoch commercial loads, I just pushed down on one side of the card wad to turn it then pulled it out with needle nose pliers and dumped the Cordite out of the case.  The Cordite still good, it was the primers that went bad.

It makes perfect sense.
Do you know the rounds are bad? Or is it just the case looks like rubbish?

I had to pull a couple last week.
I used my inertia hammer.
I was very surprised how easily the bullet popped out.
Needle nose pliers to get the paper wad and cordite out.
It was the primer that had failed.
I sprayed a drop of CRC in the case and superglued the bullet back in and gave them away.

I've got a bunch of ammo needing that needs pulled down. I've not been able to get the projectiles to budge with my collet or inertia pullers. I am going to try to push them in a bit and then use the collet puller. Thanks for the tip! Thumbs Up

They are frequently tar sealed in there as waterproofing. Pushing hem in a hair breaks the seal.

These are lacquer sealed 7.62x39mm Russian rounds that got wet. I'd like to pull them down and use the projectiles.
