Preface: I added a gold bead front sight and a smaller diameter insert for the rear battle sight. I also tinned the barrel and reciever threads together. I decided to try the iron sight setup at a 100 yard distance. I figured that since I cannot compete in a vintage rifle match with it, the least I could do was to improve my chances in another class at some point in time. I used my 168grn HPBT with 41.7grns of IMR4064 and primed with GM215M primers all stuffed inside Lake City brass. Setting the sight at the 200 yard mark in conjunction with whatever the height is on the front sight and the rifle was putting bullets in the red right out the gate. My best 10 shot group was able to be covered with my thumb so my assumption is that the rifle is capable of Sub MOA groupings.

Good shooting there! That insert in the rear sight, is that the same as the ones that were being sold on eBay a while back (most likely still)? I ordered 5 of those, have installed 2 and found them to really improve my POA/POI shots. ------------- Castles made of sand slip into the sea.....eventually |

Yes, it is the ones from the eBay seller. Sorry for the cat hair in the picture. Norwegian Forest Cats shed alot. My take on this is not about the sighting system however,, rather that the accuracy of the rifle once the barrel was installed had been called into question due to the MOD's mixed results during the original L8 series of tests and the assumption that this rifle would suffer the same mixed results. I have no other clue than that of the one tiny LB stamp I found on the barrel indicating the manufacturer of this barrel and I do not know the manufacturer of the original L8 barrels. I do not give a "Gnats Knackers" in all honesty of where this particular barrel originated from as long as it does as it should. I have another scheduled appointment next Wednesday where I will put the scope back to use focusing solely on a 100 yard grouping the same if not smaller than the one in this post...

Thank you kindly. I do need the scope however to provide beyond any doubt that this rifle is acceptable as an accurate specimen if it were to be examined by a proper English chap within the British Ministry of Defense. Kidding of course but, just in case.

Goosic; another successful project! Looks like you've found a good load for this rifle. The sight orifice adapter looks like a vehicle wiring harness seal. They come in various sizes and colours. What diameter is it inside and out? ------------- It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice! |

0.005" inside diameter according the eBay seller. Snug enough to friction fit inside the sight hole. |

what do they sell for on ebay? I can pull them off old harness connections in various sizes; only problem is that they are odd colours. ------------- It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice! |

There is a locking ring on the drum that was not secured when I started the test and it let the adjustment screw freely move fouling the windage. I have to retest with the scope adjustments corrected...

I bore sighted the rifle the previous night prior to going to the range and forgot to lock ring back down to the drum. I am going to use a laser bore sighter at the range next Wednesday and make the windage adjustment without rezeroing the drum. I rezero the drum after so I do not forget to lock the ring...
