Hello everyone
Mark here, thought I would be the first to make a post in this section. I posted the suggestion and am glad to have had it taken seriously, so Thank you. Other than that, I really don't have much to say seeing as I am not good at starting interesting topics...LOL. I have been reenacting WWII for a couple years now and have much to learn. I started reenacting with a small group of that I met shortly after moving to the lower 48 from Alaska. The lot I met up with reenacted British forces. Both of my parents are second generation born in the U.S. from England, couple that with already owning a No4 Mk.I* Rifle, joining up with them seemed natural. My Dad's family is from the Chew Valley and Mendip Hills region (near Bristol) of Somerset, so last year I decided to portray the Somerset Light Infantry. I concentrate on the two Bn.s that served in the 43rd. (Wessex) Division in North West Europe following the landings in Normandy and up to V-E Day. I am thinking of portraying the 1st. Bn Somersets that served in Burma, but that is works for the future. This is a labour of love for me, I am still learning, which will be a ongoing process. If anyone is living in the Toledo, Ohio, U.S. area and has an interest in reenacting the Somerset Light Infantry of WWII, please drop me a line. | I've done Revolutionary War (the Rebellion to those of the Commonwealth) reenacting and more recently Civil War reenacting. Actually experiencing the conditions (somewhat), using the equipment, doing the tactics etc gives one a better appreciation of what the troops went through. One thing that caught my attention, the weapons are far more effective and lethal than people realize today. |

Cottonmouth: If you look up Camp Chase Gazette, they'll have all the poop on nationaly recognized re-enactments.
They'll also have some info on what units are looking for recruits, & where they're located. Just cause a unit is located in Louissianna, don't mean that they're a LA unit. They could be (God forbid) Union  , or maybe Georgia. etc
But - if you have a particular reg't/unit in mind - most of them are on the net. ie: 11th Virginia, or 22nd Virginia Battalion, 150th New York, etc etc Lemme know how ya make out.If'n y'all need some GREAT gear - I'm "powdering down", so you & your significant "other" might benefit by that. As of today I have never been to the West Country, but hoping that will change in the future. I have not heard many people say bad things about the Mendips and Chew Valley. I have a friend in Alaska who is from Huddersfield, W. Yorks. who spent a week or so in the West Country prior to going into the Army. He had good things to say about Somerset.

Right you lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was born in Huddersfield - Princess Royal Nursing Home, Gledholt and lived in Heaton Road before moving to Holmbridge in 1959. Left in 1975 and returned in 1982 to Holmfirth. Left 1st June 2002 to live here in France - BUT - a Yorkshireman non the less.
