Besides my heart attach, I havn`t been sick since 2011, now I`ve got the covid, have dodged that bullet for 27 months.
Besides an overall sense of being unwell and my skin feels like I`m being dragged across gravel.
I`m posting this not for pity but for a kick-ass  sore throat remedy, I`ve never in all my 62 years experienced a sore throat like this. I havn`t slept a wink in two days now, the pain is near unbearable when ever I swallow.

I can relate. Had it about 11 months ago. First five days were miserable. Felt a little better each day after that. Lost 15 lbs....but not to worry, soon afterwards I relocated them.

My Jack Russell terrier still needed walking and that in itself was a killer. Would literally be wiped out for 10 minutes.

Keeping protein in me was a problem at first. The g/f dropped off two 12-packs of Fairlife protein shakes from Sam's Club on my front porch. Combined with a frozen banana in the blender,, it helped a lot.

Spent most of my time on the sofa watching YouTube gun videos.

My great Grandfather (Cree ) taught me this. When you feel un-well, especially with a sore throat - chew up & swallow a few cloves of garlic. Then swallow a little whiskey. Then lie in bed.
You should feel much better by morning. This has ALWAYS worked for me.
It will burn a sore throat going down, but its worth it!!

For what it's worth

Hoadie, I am wondering if it absolutely must be whiskey, and not another adult libation. LOL

Shiloh, my G/F's friend is a nurse. She told me to keep one of those blood-oxygen sensors that clips on the end of your finger handy. You must keep your level above 92. When I walked the dog but a short distance,  perhaps 150' max, I felt absolutely beat up. My number would drop to about 90, but then rebuild itself back up to 94 in 5 minutes of less as I dropped onto the couch.

My eldest son had covid when it was first breaking out & they really didn't have it diagnosed @ that point. He was moving back here from Toronto when he was infected. We are talking an early 30's kid that worked-out every day, played hockey couple X per week, & ran 1/2 to 1 mile daily. He told me he couldn't recall ever feeling that ill.Took him a few weeks to "recover", & was later diagnosed as COVID. 2 years later & he still has not recovered all his taste & smell (but it is coming slowly back). For the 1st year he couldn't run more than 50 yds w/o coughing up a lung & all kindsa crud.
This covid stuff aint anything to mess with!

My grandma Shirey would suck on Horhound hard candy while sipping scotch with a teaspoon of honey mixed in it along with 6 drops of Tabasco sauce when she got a soar throat. I cannot swear by it it but for me, it definitely works...

Whiskey & Honey.
Dissolve a teaspoon of honey in whiskey & sip slowly, don't chug it down.

Sorry to hear that you are suffering Shiloh.
Anytime I get a sore throat, I take a teaspoon of real honey, and just let it melt in your mouth and ooze down the throat.
I do this just as I go to bed. Normally in the morning the sore throat is gone. Especially when you treat it in the early stages.
However I only use honey from friends that keep bee's.
Stuff that's straight from the hive into the jar. It retains the natural healing properties. The supermarket stuff has generally been heat treated, so looses all the goodness that the bees put in!
Honey is I believe the only food that doesn't perish.

Take care  and let us know how you get on.

Zed;

Just so ya know...a honey bee will only produce 1/12 teaspoon of honey in it's lifetime. The "Heat treated" stuff is "pasteurized. All the good properties dissappear in the pasteurization..
Honey is the perfect food..it NEVER goes bad (it's a regurgitated product), no-one on planet earth is allergic to (pure) honey. When honey crystallizes, just put it in the oven @ 135 degF (no higher) for a while. It will return to it's natural state(If you do it higher-it pasteurizes it.
Honey is good for allergy sufferers..if you get the honey from your local area.

...&.. most of the honey you buy in the supermarket is blended with multinational honeys - the worst being Chineese. Look @ the label sometime..It will be a mish-mash of honeys& they are useless in the grand scheme of things.
(See - I know all kindsa useless stuff!! )

Honey is the perfect food, nectar of the gods.
My Son in law and my wife`s girl friend keep bees, no shortage of the real Mckoy here.
So while talking to doctor today be prescribed me Paxlovid an anti viral drug that helps your body fight the covid-19 virus  hope it works, the stuff aint cheap. Its a 2 per day morning and evening pill form for 5 days, my doctor said I was prime candidate for the treatment.
$750, thank god we have a drug plan, but if not I believe the Ontario gov`t covers it.

I've had good luck with a nice strong cup of English Breakfast Tea with a big dollup of honey. Cough drops or cough syrup seem to only make me cough more, irritating a sore throat even more. Keep the tea handy all day, sip often. Gargle several times a day with warm salt water in conjunction with the tea.

Natural Raw honey, the funky stuff with the comb still in it.
It seriously underrated.

I got covid , same time as the wife last december. I always treat such maladies with a good old fashioned recipe .  I take a two quart pot and toss in 4 or 5 bags of tea. I then put in a cup of OJ , a cup of grapefruit juice , 1/3 cup of lemon juice , a cup of good quality local honey , and a cup of good quality whiskey ( Rowan's creek by willett distillery ) . I top off with water to the 2 qt and bring to a low boil. At that time get some towels and wrap up and drink as much of this as physically possible as fast as possible. You will find that you can sweat in places you never imagined you would...or could. Repeat as often as you can. It is the nuclear option to such things and has never let me down. My wife still has issues with taste and smell...she did not do this remedy , But I had  that man made covid for 5 days total and back to normal .
Now your mileage may vary especially if you have been hoodwinked into having had those poison "vaccinations" pushed by gov't and big pharma. Those poisons have wreaked havoc on the human immune systems - almost as though that was intended.
Anyhow please try this...it's always worked for me.

I`m not vaxed but my wife is, not having any choice as shes employed by the gov`t, get it or get fired.
Any way, she got this when I got it and she`s had no real symptoms, so there`s proof right there that there`s some benefit to the vaccine. It does not prevent the illness but lessons the effects.
Paxlovid being an anti viral drug that seem to work or my doctor would not have prescribed, he said and I quote, "you`re over 60, have heart disease so this should keep you out of hospital and dead".

Your remedy sounds yummy seems a shame to only use it when your sick. Thumbs Up

I dated a real pretty jewish girl in my  youth and her mother called it a "goggamuzzle". And it is a vitamin C bullet !.   Of ther handfull of people I personally know that got any of those poison jabs ...every single one got covid and all were bad off with it. SPent a saturday moring a couple weeks ago in the local MD's office and talked to half a dozen old fellas and all of them have had serious clotting and heart issues directly related to the poison jabs. One fellow also lost his wife within days of her second jab. and another lost his sister from clotting directly after the jab. It's poison...and that truth is slowly coming out.

Why did you assume it was for consumption ONLY when  you're "Illin"?
Preventative medicine!

im sorry to hear you are ill , i agree with most of the above remedy wise , i also think shamu hit it - i think the reason i never got it after all of the exposure ive had to it [yes confirmed cases] is that i dont wait till im ill ,

i do like my cigars as well - i think they help ..........or maybe thats wishful thinking or justification , i just know ive not contracted it while others around me have

And I hope you don`t A square 10, its horrible.
Today I feel a lot better my sore throat is all but gone so its not excruciating to swallow any more, but I will say the Paxlovid is like taking chemo, does it work, I seem to be getting better idk it was free so why not, better than hospital or death, and in my demographic that`s pretty much the outcome.
As far as preventative medicine for this disease, I really don`t think there is any, it is so prevalent there`s no guarantees, only people who don`t care one way or the other.
My wife daughter and I have dodged this for 27 months we tried to figure out where or how we got it, it turns out my daughters boss who runs a restaurant was sick and continued to work with blatant disregard to those around her. I`m sick, my daughters sick, her mans sick  My wife, well tested positive and is forced to stay home till the  7th of May and maybe longer because I tested positive 1 week after her, that leaves us 1 pay-check away from bankruptcy.
And that my friends is why this will never go away.......

There is no one I know who got jabbed that hasn`t contracted this disease including my wife, close friends and my brothers, but they all, luckily, got away with little or no symptoms.
I`m not here to argue the validity of the vaccines but rather as an individual should one be forced to. we all know world gov`t have there own agendas which never include us, but this disease took us off guard and it took a long while for help to arrive. Is the vax poison IDK maybe to some and not to others, I didn`t get it because my doctor thought the risk factor was too high for me, going through this now, I kind of wish I had, but either way its a crap shoot.
I figure as soon as this virus figures out a way to marry up with bird flu it`l be game over.....

during the 2 year "shut-down" my legion lost 28 members to Covid.(& we aren't that big of a branch).
Since we have been "open" we still lose people to it. "Soup" Campbell & his wife got it a few weeks back she survived, he passed. Last night's volunteer dinner had 3 execs call in with positive tests on it (So they missed the dinner - more for ME!!).
Off & on we have had members call -in & say they have to qurantine. One of my golf pards was feeling poorly for a month or two. Thought he had a cold. Doc tested him positive for Covid & told him he had been carrying it for @ least a month!!(while he mingled with us @ Legion) So far I aint got it (dunno if it could survive in all the beer in my system! )

My Mom will be 95 in June. She was born in the prairies in Manitoba, then was an army wife until my Dad passed on '67. She's been in a care home for the past few years as her mind wanders. Our visits have been few due to the restrictions of the home. We got a call Friday night that there had been a covid breakout in the home and she tested positive. Things went down hill fast. Due to her previous wishes, they didn't take her to the hospital, but in their own palliative care unit. She was on oxygen and antibiotics and we were told the next 24 hours would be critical. We got a call yesterday that she was off oxygen, sitting up and talking. You cannot believe how tough these old Ukrainian farm people are! No wonder their kicking Putin's army!

My father turned 92 on the 22nd. He's in poor health, but not in a home. (Just moved him to my brother's).
So far we have kept him out of harm's way (Covid).

But the way things are going now...I dunno if the luck will hold

well i`m pretty much back to normal, with my newly installed 90 days worth of immunity, then the risk goes back to were it was.
No real way of beating this bug at all, we`ll all just keep getting it until it eventually kills us all.

A little bit every day I guess.
