after much frustration of owning a Enfield I was about to send it down the road for it being consistently inconsistent from shot to shot. Ive shot maybe 300 rounds of 150 and 174 grainers. I had a guy at the range who shoots alot of military rifles watch me shoot and immediately noticed my thumb being draped across top of wrist of stock was hitting my face and i was too far back on the stock to get a good sight pic i crawled the stock to get my eye closer and moved my thumb on the side of the wrist and look here! i shot maybe 30 more rounds and the results were consistent and just as good.i now love my Enfield and can see why they have a following.

There's a sight picture guide where the tips of the "ears" of the front sight should appear to just touch the image of the rearsight.

Yup, the secret of the aperture sight is to get right up on it, your eye an inch to 1.5 inches behind it.  Don’t worry, the sight won’t hit you, you should be extending your neck forward. Wrest your cheekbone firmly on the base of your right thumb. The thumb does need to wrap around the butt stock grip. This gets your eye elevated correctly and allows you to rest the full weight (no neck tension) of your head onto your right hand/thumb.

To shoot prone, you need to lay at about a 30 deg angle to the line of fire, this gets your head in the position described above.  If you try to shoot prone USMC style, that is laying in a straight inline with the line of fire, your head will be too far back from the aperture sight and you will have to hold it against the stock.  Some shooters can do this, I never could.

If you want to improve your accuracy with the aperture sight, reduce its diameter to about 0.045 to .050. There are inserts you can get that fit into the Mk 1 type singer machined rear sight which has 1 MOA click elevation adjustments. Your Mk 2 should have this type of sight fitted unless someone has removed it.
