Hi all,

I purchased these two rifles from someone cleaning out a family member's closet.....and I have very little knowledge on Enfields.  I will try to get better pictures of anything that anyone would like to see, but this is just a teaser for now (I have no idea what things might be needed to identify).

Pattern 14 on the left, M.L.E. I think on the right.  Both have been Bubba-ized.

i agree - either pattern 14 if in 303 or model 1917 if in 3006 on left its been sported for hunting , the stock would have been full length original , 
 if P14 it should have a letter [ R , E , or W]on top of chamber indicating who made it remington , eddystone , or winchester - they were the only three making them under contract to the brits , 
the stock leads me to believe it was an eddystone and the marking disc leads me to P14 , the fact that its missing leads me to guess it went thru weedon refurb between the wars , 

the MLE on the right has also been sported for hunting as it was once full wood as well and longer than the later SMLEs , cant tell much more than that from this photo , it should have markings on the right wrist to ID the mfgr

barrel lengthy will tell if they have been cut and if they can return to original state with appropriate parts , i cant tell from the photos if they are originals or cut , the P14 should have makers marks on the muzzle end behind the sight , the lower stock wuld have been marked as well near the muzzle , all three were independent [did not share p[arts] so it should all match if original , 

the MLE , appears to have cutoff , original buttstock and possibly the bolt cover if im seeing correctly , which is up for contention as my eyes no longer work as they did when i was younger

Hi all,

I truly appreciate the comments from everyone so far.  It's been busy, but I have more gun porn....err....pics for you. 

The thing I love about sites like this over the past 30 years is the incredible wealth of knowledge you can find here.  Long ago I used to be into breeding African Cichlid fish, and had a few species that no one else was able to breed.  It's the little niches in life that can be so interesting sometimes, so I thank you all again for the help.

Yes, both have been sporterized.
The SMLE has had the charger bridge removed, so its beyond restoration. That doesn't nessecarily mean its not a good shooting sporting rifle though.
From the ShtLE markings I think its a B.S.A. made one Its identical to an SMLE just a different way of abbreviating Short Magazine Lee Enfield.

Incidentally your rifle is cocked, this isn't good for the striker spring.
To "Ease Springs" (relaxing the striker spring) you take the safe OFF, open the bolt, verify it is unloaded, then pull & hold the trigger with the bolt open. Now slowly close the bolt fully. Re-apply the safety. Wink
