Here in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada at the local Canadian Tire store's ammunition section, I eyed 3 boxes of 303 Remington CoreLokt 180 Grain at $89.95/box. I just chuckled to myself because there was actual dust on the top box. What prices are you fellows finding at your ammunition stores anywhere in the world?

I paid $30.00, USD, for a box of a box of Remington 174 fmj on Saturday at a local gun show. That is about $40.00 CND.

A box of PPU150gr, SPBT for $24.00 USD, that is $32.00 CND.

THAT CANADIAN PRICE IS NUTS!

Wow…at those prices, I could retire on my ammo stash.

PPU 174 grain .303 is now 28 Euro for a box of 20.
That's a substantial rise over the last year! They were around the 22 Euro a box.
The 9mm Magtech is 16 Euro for a box of 50; which seems reasonable.

First of all Crappy Tire is out to lunch on pricing. Stupid high here as well.
At my local store here in beautiful Owen Sound(the elephants butt) on Georgian Bay, Remington Corloc is $65 and PPU 180sp is $48. Still over priced, but what ever the greedy bstds ask, they seem to get.
As long as we pay the price, the price will continue to rise, and that holds true for everything in the market place. greed driving greed.

Magtech is all I use in my 9mils. Lately its about .35cents/rnd when bought in bulk, 1000rnds or more. Its clean and consistent.

I haven't purchased commercial ammunition for over 10 years, as I reload but a quick search of my local gun shop shows a max price of $44 US.

Remember these prices are in Australian dollars and here the GST is included in the price, so what you see is what you pay at the checkout.

.303 is rapidly becoming extinct.
Few houses are making it..& even that list is getting smaller.
Prices @ Canada Tire are outrages..& you can only get FMJ.

Repudible dealers can't seem to get it at all.
(I may hafta divest meself of all me shootin irons after the upcoming surgeries, anyway.)

Here are my thoughts:  I understand about the economy of scale and how American ammunition and reloading component manufacturers would would find it more economic to sell only to Americans but when it comes to the .303 British cartridge I'm willing to bet there are just as many rifles chambered in .303 British in Canada as there is in the United States so what is interfering with Canadian shooters getting getting ammunition?  Is it the Canadian government?  Has the spawn of Pee-Air emplaced so many rules and regulations that American companies say "screw it! we don't need the hassle!"?  If so, is it a conscious ploy to enact another form of gun control?  Back in the day we got around the higher cost of Canadian reloading components by crossing the border at Aldergrove, B.C. ostensibly to gas up and buy milk and cheese but also take a run down to Kesselring's Gun Store in Burlington, WA.  We'd declare the milk and cheese which would satisfy the government's Border Pirates need for tribute and smuggle the reloading components in.  I did this dozens of times over the years without any problems.  Is this an option today or has technology improved so much that a Snickers bar dropped between the seats will set off sirens and land you in jail?

I do not think the"Border Pirates" will hang you from the yardarms for Snickets.

Hoadie yes, you no.

My family engaged the "Border Pirates" for as long as I can remember. Going from ST John to Calais.

Pay the 12% toll and who cares.

I remember going to a Canadian gun show in the 60's bring home a rifle, ammo, and lots of other military items.  I can only remember being stopped once and the"Border Pirates' overlooked everything in the trunk.

I have not been to Canada for going on 10-12 years. I shall always remember it as a great Nation.

But I still hate moose meat.

We have Canadian collectors drive to the St Louis International Cartridge Show each year and both bring ammunition across the border and take ammunition back with them.  I imagine there is paperwork required but clearly is it possible.

I have no problem getting 303 ammo if I needed it. The gun and tackle shop I frequent always has lots of PPU, Remington and S&B brands.
They also stock IMR and Hodgdon powders, always have primers and projectiles in stock.
The goods are available, I think a lot of shops just don`t stock it because of the cost. But those die hard 303 nuts that luv to shoot will pay regardless. Just like gasoline, its a necessary evil....LOL

I walked across the bridge between St. John, New Brunswick and Calais, Maine a few times during the Summer of 1971 when I was part of an exchange student program called the "Young Voyageurs".  We couldn't buy beer in Canada but the Americans would happily sell to us.  We'd stuff the beer in our pockets and packs and clink our way past Canada Customs.  "Anything to declare kids?"  "No sir."  "O.K., have a fun weekend."  (wink wink).  Try that today and see what happens!

Shiloh; are you referring to EPPs store on hwy # 11? (Just wunderin)

If I recall correctly, under our current firearms licences we (as Canadians) are allowed to import something like 1,500 rounds of small arms ammo - legally.

With the .303 methinks the 'Merican calibers rule the manufacture plus no-one wants to machine a rimmed cartridge, I guess.

Planned obsolecence on the part of the Liberal dictatorship is quite possible.

FWIW

No I don`t deal with Epps since it was sold.
The store is local to Owen Sound (free plug) Watsons Tackle.
As I mentioned before there is plenty of Remington, PPU and S&B .303 ammo on the market. The only issue is price. Pre covid I was buying PPU at $28/20rnds and now its almost $50 for 20 rnds.
Thankfully I reload and have plenty of components on hand.
If Canadian tire is your only option in your neck of the woods, that sucks, because Crappy tire sucks.

Yes you are correct you can bring ammo in from the states, but you`d have to go down there and bring it back, its doubtful you`d find anyone who`d ship it. Buy declare and mossy on home.
What ever you do, don`t try to smuggle(undeclared) because that will end you up in jail......

""An individual can import 5000 rounds of small arms cartridges into Canada if they are for personal use ( I.e. not for resale) without an import licence, but is not allowed to do so for resale. If you are intending them for resale or if you want to import larger quantities, you will need an import permit.""

That sounds about right for insanity prices, here on Vancouver Island it's the same.

If he calls an election,... still waiting..........................

Although a new gov`t aint going to change prices and probably won`t do anything about our absurd gun laws, or anything else the True Turd did/has done!!
If at all, remember the last conservative gov`t took @ 12 yrs to fix a bunch of stuff from the `98 liberal  gun control OIC, and a best, did little or nothing.

Its all about ratings and to do so too soon would probably result in a vote of non confidence. Think what you will, almost every politician in Canada is on board with un-arming the general populous, regardless to what they say. Smoke and mirrors: what ever it takes to harvest votes.

""The position does not have a set term of office, and does not have term limits. Instead, prime ministers can stay in office as long as their government has the confidence of a majority in the House of Commons of Canada under the system of responsible government.""

Thems the facts, its not 3 or 4 yrs (everyone thinks its like the USA its NOT!). As long as his coalition holds he`ll stay. If he calls an election and remains leader of the Libs, he will do so only if he believes he can win again.....

Sadly, I`m not holding my breathe over this issue. We only have ourselves to blame for this mess we`re in.

Pierre Poilievre has pledged to ban future gun control laws passed by O.I.C. but I haven't heard if he will repeal any of the current regime's more onerous edicts, sorry..... 'laws'.

Canada Tire aint my only option here. But Bass pro don't handle .303 any more.
I live on the border, but trying to find a U.S.of A. dealer in upstate N.Y that stocks .303 is like finding the holy grail!

If you don`t mind paying shipping, start looking at the big name Canadian retailers. Shipping would be cheaper than gas down to the states.

Just did a quick search, Budget Shooting supplies has 642 boxes in stock $35.25/20 PPU
G4C has 303 in stock $38.99  Remington UMC
                                     Marstar has Remington  $39.99
                                     FOC  has 303 $44
                                     Bullseye North has 303 $45

That`s just s few retailers, so lots out there, like I said earlier if you want to pay the piper.
Buying from the States would end up costing more in the end, not worth it.
