Looks like the stock market rebounded pretty good. I think the world realizes that the system is broken and needs fixing. Enter Trump. Love him or hate him (I like him) the man can get things done. Too early to tell, but I truly hope his plan works. Although I do get the feeling China is pi#$ed! To bad. They make crappy products and infect the world with viruses every decade or so. The western world doesn't need them... in my humble opinion.

I think that most countries and probably most people are missing the point of the tariffs. I high percentage of all manufacturing, whether it be in the USA or Europe import thousands of components that have been outsourced to China, to create more wealth for the Stock market.
By making it uneconomical to import the cheap labour parts, products, etc. He is forcing the big companies to bring the jobs to the USA. That, in the long term is great for the USA, and if Europe followed the example, it would be great for Europe.
But one of the downsides is that now all the companies have been sharing there knowledge with the Chinese, so they can make the I- Phones, computers and car parts etc. They will be making the parts and assembling them in China instead of exporting to the USA to be "made in America"
So that means that consumers need to choose to buy the locally made products.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Excellent point. There is know way a western company can make a product to compete with China because of labour costs. What they can do is make products of better quality and materials. But as I see what is now unfolding, in my opinion, is that Trumps ultimate goal is to isolate and control China's influence on the world's markets and the world's power structure. So the world wide tariff blitz is really just kind of a smoke screen to see if he could force China to show its hand. It did, as I think he thought they would with a huff and reciprocating tariffs. China has sort of isolated itself from the rest of the world by doing so. Trump did have to back peddle a bit, I believe, in response to the stock market, but didn't cut China any slack. My gut tells me with over a billion people to feed and the US being their biggest export market, China is feeling the economic heat that they haven't for many a year. My fear is when you corner a country like China, it may force their hand to do something like invade Taiwan... hence the efforts of the US to work alliance's with South Korea and Japan.

no argument from me with ZEDs thought here , china is a target of trumps , they seal from everyone and impose unfair trade in return , that will see some adjustment ,

i think its important to note that the only reason he put a delay in place for everyone else is because at least 77 countries have contacted his admin about making adjustments in their tariff policies , he is tierd of us getting blocked from the world markets bu the tariffs of others , remove yours on us we will remove ours , REAL FREE TRADE is what he wants , its whhat we all want i think ,

Don’t discount the role that AI and robotics will play in mass production of the future. There will be a day that robotic manufacture will be cheaper than Chinese human labor. That’s what is what Trump sees as the future. Might not seem too appealing for those of us that grew up in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, but it’s coming none the less.

The question is, do we want that to happen in Communist China or in the western democratic world?

We all see that Chyna operates like the borg against every facet of western businesses and morality. Briben literally took their filthy lucre and let them do as they do. At Least Trump is actually doing something and putting them on their heels. Those that do not see the chinese menace here are part of their grift and or that absolutely daft !.

all good points , i think trumps long range plans - not seen by the short sighted and political hacks - may well change the manufacturing landscape back to our poat WWII realm , when we were helping japan to become a powerhouse in that area ,

MADE IN THE USA may mean something again , im not a union person in general but LOOK FOR THE UNION LABLE might become commonplace again , im all for it and i hope he gets the support he needs to get it done ,

looks like our coal industry is back in action , im looking forward to coal trains coming through here again like they used to , i have been seeing an increase in oil trains recently , it has given me hope in spite of our governor
