I picked this up recently with part of a larger collection. I got a couple people interested in buying it but not sure I want to sell it. Somebody offered me $2800 but I’ve seen just the Rifle alone selling for $2800 not with a matching crate. I have a second number seven as well without a matching crate and a few other Enfield 22 trainers. This is also my first post here so thank you for letting me join. I hope to learn a lot from all of you. but in hindsight, trying to upload photographs here is a pain in the butt!

That's absolutely fabulous! I think that is definitely a keeper.
If you need the space, sell the other one.
I have a few.22 Enfield's, they get the most use.

Welcome to the forum, from Paris.

Welcome from Atlanta.

I believe only around 20,000 of the C No. 7 rifles were built in Long Branch, Ontario.  I have my Dad's, a later version of the LHS action body markings, 1946.  Hard to see in the photo, but yours looks to be a 1944, so the early version.

These are nicely made rifles; and shoot well.  A windage adjustable rear aperture sight is great for shooting.

Welcome.

Nice find. I have a No7 but not a transport chest to go with it. Can I see Long Branch on the side so it's a C No7 Mk1 and not the BSA one? The image on my phone is a bit small to see.

Does your one have a magazine? The BSA uses an adapted Sportsman Five mag, not sure if the Canadian version ever had a mag, just the single shot plate.
I'd love to have a shot with that, my No7 shoots so well

I see the correct .22 marked magazine case in the photo.  The C No. 7 magazine has a loading platform in place of the .303 mag follower, single shot only.   Those mags are hard to find now.

I think $2800 is not too far off in value.  Not that uncommon to find them with the Transit Chest.

There were only about 2500 of our No7 made here so they don't come up very often, and I've never seen a transit chest specifically for one. I would love a transit chest for one.
I notice this one has a slightly shorter rear sight but keeps it as a target aperture, was this how they were originally made?

The 22lr versions of these rifles are great fun to shoot, gotta love a small-bore training rifle.

Yes, that is the original C No. 7 rear sight.  It would have made a much better sight than any of the No. 4 backsights, Mk 1 thru Mk 4.  It has 1 MOA click elevation and windage adjustments.

I think the transit chests were only issued for the Canadian No. 7, but not sure on that. It looks similar to the No. 4 T transit chest, but not as tall.

The crate alone is worth more than the difference.
Combined they're worth considerably more, particularly if the is something (like a serial number" actually "matching" the case to the rifle)

I think the crate cost me ten dollars at second hand store in New Brunswick in the sixty.

They've appreciated considerably since then, even more if "matching the rifle"!

The store had a pallet of them.

Some with inserts, some with out.

Put in the back of a Ford station wagon and took it to Virginia.

Pics of my Long Branch .22 and a couple others. Sadly realize I need to take pics of my Brit No.7 and transit chest.

That takes me to a pic of a sausage dog in a crate on grass?

it does appear to be a proper Cno7 , mine is a 1945 , it has darker stock furniture similar to yours , the other one i had [traded] had the blonde birch furniture ,

there were two runs of these made 44-45-46 run was just under 20,000 , the second run was 49-50 , it was a smaller number i dont have at hand right now , approx SN spreads on the first run =
1944 SN OL1- OL6000
1945 SN OL6000 - 1L0500
1946 SN 1L0500 - 2L0000

my box mag is prpperly marked and has the single feed ramp ,
the Britt no7 had a small 22cal mag mouned to make it a repeater ,

ive always wished the Cno7 had retained the bayo lugs like my no2 mkIII trainer
