saw on gutfeld tonight they are back = i didnt know they were gone , i havent flown but once since 1982 , that was to las vegas for shot show and it was not a trip that i spent much time in the airport either direction as the flight was direct ,

but back in the mid/late 70s i flew a few times for work , one that jumps to mind was when i delivered a bif on a project in kansas city , had to be turned in at the architects office by a certain time , i flew there in the morning took a cab to the location , found a pay phone and got in touch with the office where a group of people were filling in pricing to my estimate , accepting phone bids from subcontractors and revising our bid as they came in , i stayed on the phone for half an our listening to the revisions getting made and finally just before the time deadline i filled out the documents read back the prices to confirm what we were submitting and took the bid in and got it time stamped , then took the cab back to the airport because it was a closed opening ,

so my return flight was not for a little over four hours later so i sat in the airport bar sip[ping a beer and watching people come and go , i was one of a dozen others waiting for flights it seemed a normal thing to do , not sure when that changed but apparently it did - but now the trend is coming back

after i left that job abd moved i worked for the quad cities contractor that i flw for a lot but we had a company plane and piolet so never spent time in the airport anymore , only once did we fly commercial , three of us flew to jacksonville florida but got routed though atlanta with a layover - didnt get in till layte , thats the night we encountered the hookers in the airport while moving from one terminal to another , it was about 1AM , only other commercial flight was the one i booked to come home and resign then moved here

i dont like to fly and will avoid it at all cost but if i had to spend time [layover] in an airport they better have a bar

My wife and I used to fly a lot but with everything related to air travel becoming increasingly unpleasant we have vowed to never fly again unless it's a large body of water we can't drive over.  From urine soaked rear seat floors to incredibly disgusting body odor to a COVID sufferer purposefully hacking unmasked in everyone's direction to seat kickers to drunken louts to surly TSA officers we've had enough.

One trip a flight from Vancouver to Houston with a stop in Dallas (my stop) continued straight on to Houston since DFW was completely socked in due to a severe thunderstorm.  American Airlines booked me on an evening flight to get back to Dallas so I sat in the bar to have a couple of Shiner Bocks.  I struck up a conversation with the guy next to me and as with all men we soon turned to talking about careers.  He worked for a Canadian electrical wholesale company and was heading back after looking at the products of an American electrical manufacturing company.  I mentioned I ran an electrical contracting company for some time in Vancouver, B.C. so he asked me if I ever dealt with a wholesaler by the name of E.B. Horsman to which I replied I had.  Then he asked me if I ever dealt with a Stan J. at that company to which I replied that I not only dealt with him he and I together with his son Todd were hunting and fishing buddies before I moved to Texas. The man I was talking to was one of Stan's golf buddies.  Small world.

Oh! the horror!

Actually most young bar tenders have no idea which correct style of glass to use.   Also, I get a perverse joy in watching them squirm when I order one of the drinks I enjoyed half a century ago.
