The second to last moose I shot in northern British Columbia was with a No5Mk1 with a 215 grain CIL bullet. The first shot was a kill shot but I shot again to be sure. The critter was 60 yards or so away when it seen me and turned broadside allowing me a perfect shot. After the moose was laying down we gutted it and found that the bullet had struck a rib and changed direction sending a piece of rib through the heart and the bullet continued to the offside staying just under the skin. There was lots of blood and air coming out of the hole in the side, I have shot lots of moose and that one bled the most out of any animal that I had ever taken probably because of the sliced heart. Even though the second shot may not have been needed I firmly believe that you shoot till its down. |

I did'nt think that CIL ,were still around ? I have fond memories of
their product .We used to get it a fair bit over here & it was
dynimite on Water Buff ! Yeah I know where your comming from with
shooting until the dust settles with anything that can & will do
grevious bodily harm to anyone who isn't carefull  I remember years ago going into a Gun store in Sydney & they hads a big basket of CIL 38 ammo for $6.00 per 50 !!!!
I just could'nt belive my good luck & their stupidity for selling
ammo so cheap ! I cleaned up I brought the lot (quietly sniggering at
my good fortune ) I had a Rossie lever gun in 357mag & of course it
fired .38spl !!!!!!! Shame I did'nt read the boxes more carefully ! It
was .38 S&W not spl !!!! I was stuck
with the stuff for a couple of years ! Until I found a Bloke with a
Webbley in 38-200 who was only to glad to take it off my hands (at
$10.00 per 50)Dave |

Yes unfortunately CIL is gone and so is the last box of my 215 grainers. But I did manage to find a supplier in Ontario , Canada that carries the Woodleigh 215 grainers for the .303 and bought 2 more boxes for reloading. I have 1 box of 100 Norma 216 grainers for the .303 and with the Woodlegh's I will be OK for heavy bullets for awhile now. |

I must admit being fond of the Norma 215's but I prefer to cast my own out of a blend of Linotype & range scavanged lead Dave |

Norma makes a 216gn .311/.312 cal bullet?? Couldn't find it on their site. Another firm here in Oz makes a 215gn RN although they aren't always in stock. Taipan, who are one of the longest running projectile makers in Oz, make this bullet. Problem is they're frequently out of stock, especially since it's becoming popular. The next run of production is estimated to be in 2007 but Malcolm Bone, who owns and runs the business, says they're seriously considering doing the next production run earlier as demand has been quite high. At AUD$54.10 for 100 pills it's quite good and Taipan uses original drawing and bullet making machines to create these. I'd imagine they'd be much like the bullets made during the early to mid 20th century. Taipans last order of 215gn pills went to New Zealand so for you guys who are after something a little cheaper than Woodleighs you might think about back ordering some, as I have done. I've back ordered 200 bullets so when they're manufactured again I'll be getting a good supply. AS I mentioned in another forum these are not to be confused with the
origanal Tiapans ! They brought the name & its only resembleance of
the origanal product is the name ! They leave so much copper in your
barrel that you have to get a mineners permit to clean it out !It's
like looking at a rich vaine of copper ore ! I do have 100 origanal
bullets left of the Tiapan company that was ! But I do not like the new
brand . The Norma 215 gn are as rare as hens teeth in Australia I got
my last lot from Mick Smiths in sydney a couple of years ago Dave |
