Well German George wasn't liked by the English mate !! Why do you think Mountbatten changed his name after ww1? The House of Hanover have never been the real royals here. They're imports after we gave Charles a haircut following the civil war in 1642. Scots had even less to like them for after the rebellion in 1745. Shame Bonnie Prince Charlie didn't make it to London they managed to get as far as Derby before they turned back.

Actually hoadie the scots and the irish are from different ancient tribes. The Irish are Picts an old established race living in Ireland pre the roman invasion.

Hoadie.
A bit late in my reply but I have some drill manuals that I inherited from my father in law. He was a Sgt Gunnery Instructor in the brit. army.
I have Small Arms Training. Rifle 1942.
Gun Drill for Q.F. 25Pr Mark II Gun.1944
Handbook of the Polsten, Machine Gun 20mm Mk1 1944
Rifle Training For War, Local Defence Volunteers. Price 1/-
and Manual of Modern Automatic Guns,Sten, Bren,Lewis, Thompson, Vickers, Browning.                                      Loading, Firing, Details of Mechanism, Stoppages and Immediate Action.  Stripping and Assemblling. Price 1/-
No PC brigade in those days. The First Paragraph reads:-
    The Object Of Weapons Training
The sole object of weapons training is to teach all ranks the most efficient way of handling weapons in order to kill the enemy. Instructors will always bear this fact in mind, and continually impress it upon those whom they instruct.
Priceless  articles to be handed on.

1935!
Wow, only 9p as well.Clap

I saved a copy of that, thanks. Not sure why I saved a copy, as like most I hated drill, & wasn't too thrilled about giving drill instruction later on.
It usually started with something like:
"Get fell in in 3 heaps!", or "You three! Form Fours."Clown

I don't think that PDF has pictures. This one here has some pictures.

Rifle Exercises (Arms Drill)

http://greatwarhistoricalsociety.com/Rifle_Exercises_Arms_Drill.pdf - http://greatwarhistoricalsociety.com/Rifle_Exercises_Arms_Drill.pdf

Port Arms

http://greatwarhistoricalsociety.com/Port_Arms.pdf - http://greatwarhistoricalsociety.com/Port_Arms.pdf

I have seen a Canadian Navy drill manual in PDF that has special on deck drilling which is slightly different.  I think the Canadian Navy at one point went to on deck drilling even on shore.

Yes, John They did.  That was always the first thing we had to sort out with those POG's when there was a Combined services parade or guard. They may have the nicest uniform in our forces, but gawd there drill looks like crap.

The Lee-Enfield should be carried, on the march, at the "Slope arms" position, at a 45 degree angle over the left shoulder. A salute on the march is done with the right hand instead of the left, with the hand brought across the small of the butt, and to "order arms" drop the left forearm from parallel to the ground to perpendicular, thereby dropping the butt down, reach across with the right arm to grasp the forestock and bring the rifle across the body and to the ground on the right.

From the "Drill for use on board ship" I think the Canadian Navy carries the Lee-Enfield  in the right hand at a "Shoulder Arms" position.

Heres regulations for Musketry 1915
http://www.archive.org/details/musketry30322car00sola - http://www.archive.org/details/musketry30322car00sola

It includes information on the .22 trainers and a section on lessons learned in the first months of WW1.

A good companion book is
"Rifles and Ammunition and Rifle Shooting"
http://books.google.com/books?id=kd_NAAAAMAAJ&dq=rifles+and+ammunition+and+rifle+shooting&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=tYD7oxpmfb&sig=GQ9vd9TN_OxR9cmCSCWCWiVrCMw&hl=en&ei=-50pSpXgGoWGtgeYl9GvCA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1 - http://books.google.com/books?id=kd_NAAAAMAAJ&dq=rifles+and+ammunition+and+rifle+shooting&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=tYD7oxpmfb&sig=GQ9vd9TN_OxR9cmCSCWCWiVrCMw&hl=en&ei=-50pSpXgGoWGtgeYl9GvCA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1

Which includes evaluations of the arms of the major powers in WW1, and prewar experimentation leading to the MkVII bullet plus a lot more.

This site has instructions for armorers and SAID drawings for the SMLE
