I'm currently restoring a M01/30 Mosin nagant Sniper. I was chatting with Oldbikerwrench about head space issues and firing pin adjustment. He gave me some very useful information.

But what really helped is that he is sending me his 7.62x54R head space gauges. That is saving me $40 or so dollars. I think we have posted about this before. if any of us have tools that would help a fellow member we could share them saving all of us lots of money.

let me know what you think about a tool swap data base? Of course the owner of the tool would reserve the right to send or not send the tool at his discretion.

Thanks again Oldbikerwrench!!!
I used those gauges and head space was perfect. Closed on the GO and did not close on the NO GO. Can not wait to attach the scope and see what it will do at long range shooting.

You are welcome and I can hardly wait to hear how it fires/shoots.

I do not have much for tools yet but I do own Go and No Go headspace gauges for 7.62x54R and Go, No Go, and Field headspace gauges for 303 British.
The 7.62x54R's are out on loan and the 303 British gauges are going out on loan tomorrow.
Once I get them back anyone here wanting to borrow them just make a post and pm me.

I have a field, go and no go for .303...be my guest, otherwise they are just sitting around doing nothing....and its not really like you can wear them out!!
I have 3 Nagants coming soon...with solid actions (I know, I know...danger....) I see if it feeds and ejects properly...does it function correctly (safety works etc...) I shoot a round and check the case over for a while....look for stretching, pierced primer, soft strike and other signals of bad headspace or other bolt problems.....of course, I do my best visual inspection of the bore, receiver and bbl for cracks and other bad stuff..... have not had a problem yet....oh, and I always wear glasses for the first shot of a new rifle....just to be sure...If anything looks or feels wrong....STOP.....
