A Square 10, I have found that sometimes I pay a little more, or get something I want just becouse I want it. In my opinion if the shotgun is in good working condition and you want it, for a price that your comfortable. Then go for it. As far as draw backs the few I have seen had no draw backs, they were in sound condition

Many Martinis were coverted to shotguns and they are a good action so if it is in good nick I dont see a problem.

Is it a modern conversion?

Tough to shoot doubles...Wink  What was the concern? My friend just built a 45-70 Martini conversion, it should be plenty strong.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's gorgeous.

i think its the one you are thinking of , ive traded a treasured rifle that is truely a shooter , its the intent of the tradeing partner to shoot competetily and i know this rifle to be what he will need , im not a competitive rifle shooter so this fondly held example is going to a home i hope to be better as it will simply rest in my cabinet and a shooter deserves to be shot ,

this is what ive traded-
http://steyrmannlicher.yuku.com/topic/6127 - http://steyrmannlicher.yuku.com/topic/6127

im shooting more trap these days and i need to quit shooting my double barrel stevens feild gun [it was my fathers -got it new in 1938 IIRC] to improve at all , id like to think ill shoot better with a trap gun , if not ill quit , but i also want to hold true to my dedication to collecting enfeilds ,
and this is what ive traded for -

It's a 12ga with a Remington 870 barrel and screw in chokes.

Default WTT Martini trap gun

I have a custom trap gun built on a Martini action that I'd like to trade. Honestly I'm not sure of it's monetary value since it was given to me. But I never use it so I would prefer to trade it for something that I would shoot. Here are some of the things I'd be interested in. A Savage 99 with the rotary magazine and counter. A Swede 96, 1917 Eddystone, 30-40 Krag, Persian Mauser or 03-A3 Springfield in original condition, no sporters. I would also be interested in a Martini or other rolling /falling block single shot rifle of most any caliber. I don't shoot pistols much but I would be interested in a Springfield XD. I will entertain other offers.

Awesome job, that's a sweet-lloking shottie.

I've always been a sucker for that grain pattern, in fact I'd thought of getting a "Kentucky rifle" just so I could have wood with the fiddleback pattern.

Ah well, I dont like gravy so thats why I dont get the plaster. I have found however that whenever I eat them I get constipated.
I guess that is what is causing that.

Hoadie I just recently had a winchester shot gun brought into my shop for me to see if I could fix it... The ole boy bought it from his friend for $40.00 Mark brought it to me since its His long time Bud and asked if I would fix it for him.  after cleening it and Man it was dirty... looked like some one drug it through the swamp and accross the yard after . it was a mess.
I got a few parts that were missing or broke and reasembled the Gun along with some help from CM and it would not shoot or eject. I disasemble it and started all over again .. nothing
I called Mark and told him to come get the Gun ... Its put back together and ready to beat up against a treee.
I then did some digging on the ole girl talked to one guy that said he has to clean his at about every 150 200 rounds or it starts acting up...
I personally didnt like it. I used to grip about my Remy 1100 .. Now Im happy to have her. but would take a Mossberg any day....

Rhino I have a Model 1400 MKII just like the one you and I attempted to restore that afternoon. I have NEVER had NO trouble from mine and would buy another if I could. Now a remington 1100 I would not use as a boat anchor they are junk O-rings gas system and they do not like cold weather and have to clean after every shot, as far as that goes you have to clean after every shot and in between shots. Also the auto loading 7400 series rifles would make good boat anchors as well

You want a decent semi auto shotgun ?? Try a Beretta 303 semi. Lad has 1 it's never missed a beat in the 4 years he's had it. Got it second hand for his 14th birthday. Been dragged through ditches rough shoots clay shoots you name it it's done it.

I got the same Semi Winchester as Cookie-he's seen it/worked on it.I dunno why mine fouls out so quickly & his dont.(finicky critters I guess). After taking it to Cookies I cleaned it @ home & took it upp to cabin for some traps.Started to act up on the 15th round..& by 25 it was completly inoperable(never used to be like that). So now we gotta take it down fer cleaning a couple X per day if we wanna use it.

On the Winchester 1400's there is two gas holes that stop up. remove the barrel and there inside the ring on the barrel side. Cheap discount ammo will foul one out. It is normal cleaning porcedure for that shotgun. Just like any other firearm it should be cleaned and oil after each use.

Well,I guess Winchester,Federal & Remington trap loads are all "discount" stuff then.
Kinda like a sophisticated aircraft...spends more time w/maintainance than actual use!!

Clean the gas ports with a PIPE cleaner soaked in barrel cleaner. Betcha if my lad had hold of it and cleaned it you wouldn't get the stoppages you do get. 1 other thing do you use fibre wad or plas wad cartridges? Plaswads can shave bits of plastic off when they pass the gas ports that can cause blockages.

Hoadie you bring a non-functioning shotgun to the meet and greet. I break it down and do a complete cleaning, “By the way was in severe need of”, and if works flawlessly for several months, you attempt to clean it and it begins to malfunction. When I come up this fall to hunt with you I will again disable and clean your shot gun and return it to service. And by the way Hoadie, That is part of it, "You use it you clean it". That is the Responsibility of owning and using a firearm. It is a mechanical device and requires routine maintenance. There are two types of maintenance. Scheduled and Emergency.

Routine or schedule maintenance is always the best. You choose the time and place to take a given piece of equipment out of service. For example you shoot a firearm. It is time to schedule a routine maintenance.

Emergency maintenance not good. This is when a piece of equipment is neglected and or improperly maintained dictates the time and place it will be serviced. And it always will be at a time or place that is very inconvenient.

Ok! 1 make sure the toothbrush has bristles   Big%20smile, 2 read my posting again! Plaswads do shave off on the gas ports and bits DO get stuck ergo it malfunctions.Dead

Fouling? That is irreverent. If the shotgun was cleaned properly after each use there would be no fouling.

Cookie Monster , I have had my 1100 Remy for over 20 years never had trouble with it unless I shot winchester ammo... Im not that crazy over the 1100 I prefer a pump shotgun instead. But My Step Dad gave it to me one X-mass so He didnt have to buy me some thing for X-mass. His way out was a treasur of a gift for a 16 year old kid that loved to hunt all the time.
We lived in the Floriada panhandal at the time and I had 1000's of acres of forest to hunt. thats what I was talking about when we went to your place for a hunt. same type of terrain as your place....

My son, a friend, and I have been out small game hunting the last two days. Between the three of us we put several squirrels in the freezer. It rained on us yesterday off and on and however today it was clear with a heavy frost this morning. My son and I used the Model 1400 MKII Winchester with no incidents, cycled flawlessly each time it was used.  After each hunt it was cleaned and oiled so it will be ready next time it is called upon for use.

Yes-as it should be...when I brought mine to your place last March it was filthy-admittedly.We discussed that..& the reasons why.(You NEVER see that with ANY of my other firearms).Since then the s.o.b. has been cleaned to within an inch of its life-DURING & after every use.It doesnt matter what we do-it heats up & shuts down.(Modified may have sumthin to do with it).I used to shoot trap with it in large matches-no problem.Have a snit of a time tryin to shoot sport clays.
