As of 30 minutes past sun set today 1st rifle season has ended and Muzzleloading season will began at 30 minutes before sun rise tomorrow.
We have two weeks of Muzzleloader then back to rifle season

BLOODY FRONT END LOADING ! CHARCOAL BURNERS !!!!!!!!!!!! As a matter of intrest are you restricted to using a muzzel loader or can you use a breach loading Black Powder fire arm ? Cough cough ..Bloody black powder Dave trying to see through the smoke here ! |

you can use a breech loader.
Must be of a Caliber used prior to 1900,
Must have an exposed hammer.
Must be a break Action.
Must be a single shot.

Cheers CM thanks for clearing that one up ! So weapons like a Sharps for instance would be permisable or even a Snider ! I wonder how you'd go with a Martini Henry ? as it has of course no exposed hammer ? I'm guessing there'd be no problems with the 577-450 round ! dave |

yes I have a 1874 trapdoor springfield that I may use. I'm loading 70 grains of black powder witha .45 cal projectile to make it a factory load 45-70 Cookie Monster

You blokes may be able to clear something up for me ! The origanal Load for a 45-70 was it 45 cal -70 gns of Black Powder & was it a 405 gn or a 500 gn bullet ? Over here there are two schools of thought one being that it was a 405 gn bullet & the other that it was a 500 gn bullet ! Dave |

I thoughtbit was a .450 gn bullet (or there abouts)
Like my Enfield smoke-pole..it's a .577 - but MOST folks refer to it as .58. I COULD be wrong (again) I also note that PENNSYLVANIA - & maybe other states, are moving to close the black powder deer hunt to breechloaders.
