Hey guys. Ill be leaving Afghanistan soon and Ive been looking around for a new hunting rifle, but I decided instead to take out my old Enfield. It was left to me from a friend who passed away about 10 years ago and is in nearly perfect condition except for one little thing. After shooting it a few times a very small metal clip fell out and now the bolt comes out every time I open it. Im going to see if I can get that fixed and then bend the bolt so I can add a scope. Other that that I want to leave it original because it looks great. My only concern with it is the weight. I'm moving to colorado soon and plan on using my rifle for elk hunting, but thats a pretty hefty rifle to carry up the mountains. Ill try to get some pics up as soon as my wife emails them to me.

They make a scope adapter for the Enfield ...and I dont think I have ever seen an Enfield that needed the bolt bent ....they are already bent .... that puzzles me that you say you need to bend it for a scope ..... Pictures please! The bolt needing bending & the clip detaching that allows the bolt to come out don't sound like Lee-Enfield features.  .Might you have a Mauser-patterned "American Enfield"? I ask because the bolt handle is different & the thing that fell off sounds like a Mauser type bolt stop. | Hey Rhino, you were right about the bolt already being bent, that was my mistake. I havent really seen the rifle much since I put it in storage over 6 years ago. Still no pics yet. hopefully I will have them soon. |

| well I'm finally back in the states and got my rifle back. I definitely had forgotten what it looks like. I was hoping it was a no4 mk2 but it turns out its a mk1* which explains why the bolt comes out without pressing a bolt release button. Also it is already sporterized nicely with a fee floating barrel. I'll post pics if I figure it how. Also, I believe the mk1* is American made, anyone know anything about that? |

It is a No4 MkI* as made by Savage Arms .303 Enfield made in Mass. for the British Army under contract during WWII under Lease / Lend agreement. both savage /US & longbranch/canada made the mkI* , but these were limited to north american production , bolt might have been bent but in the photo it looks correct to me , with that micrometer backsight it should serve you well
