I bought 3 receivers and today they finally got here. The 2 No 4 Mk 1 receivers are both 1943 Maltby's. The No 1 Mk III is a bit interesting. It is a 1916 BSA Mk III* with the * struck out. On the left side of the wrist is proof of being to India with the RFI 1928 stamp. On the right side, upper rear of the receiver is another stamp. I am thinking it is of Middle Eastern origin, but if anyone has an idea then let me know.    |

Nice purchases, Bear! You lucky guy, I just retired a Maltby #4 receiver as you know. You have enough 'projects' there to keep you busy all winter long and well into the next year! Congrats! ------------- Castles made of sand slip into the sea.....eventually |

| For the No 1 I do have pretty much every necessary bit from barrel and bolt to woodwork. Collecting all these bits has paid off there. The No 4's I don't have anything for at this point. Well, maybe one rear sight but that's about it. On those I am hoping to wait until Criterion releases their barrels.... If they ever start manufacturing them anyway.... |

I read they have prepared 10 prototypes and by the photo on their Facebook site they look beautiful. They just received a milling cutter to finish the profiling. Only a matter of time before they become mainstream I take it to mean. | The No 1 will stay as is. The pictures don't really show it well but the blueing on that one is actually pretty nice. The No 4's both have some issues with surface rust and some nasty paint remnants so I think I will just have those bead blasted and parkerized. Sad thing is I will end up spending more money on these rifles than they will ever be worth, but I do enjoy hunting for the parts and having the satisfaction of putting another one of these old girls back into service. That's worth it to me. |

Bear your really taking it to the next level with these. Most projects get started from a barrelled action at least but these are bare action jobs. Good luck with it. If restoring is your thing, you just have to be accumulating parts all the time and stockpiling for the day. Things fall together nicely or at least more easily if you have a variety of bits to choose from. I used to do the odd restoration but I found myself becoming more of a parts colector rather than a gun collector. A slap in the face one morning and my collecting interest took a different path. |

My big thing is restoring No 1 Mk III* that have been sported by Bubba, so I have accumulated a LOT of parts. I do look for complete rifles to buy when I can though. To sum it up nicely, for the 1916 receiver I have my choice of 3 bolt bodies to test fit. I am a bit off I think...
