nice , a couple there ive not held first hand and one [1A1] ive not seen first hand , i once had a mk3* , a 2A , a 2A1 , a 410 traditional chamber , and 410 Commercial chamber , along with all of the bayonets , you sir have an extremely nice collection of ishys

The interesting thing about the first two rifles is that they both have South African military markings. I have also come across others similarly marked, the latest of which was dated 1941. Although I have so far found no archival evidence, I strongly suspect that they were originally imported from India during the Second World War for use in the North African campaign. |

Terry, Indian troops served in N. Africa, so do you think the arms were left behind when they returned home?

That is a possibility, but seeing that the South African troops needed rifles to take part in the campaign, I believe that they are more likely to have received them beforehand. India manufactured complete rifles; South Africa did not and transport from India was probably safer than from England where there was also a shortage at that time. |

| Yes indeed Terry, India Did produce a staggering amount of rifles, many for the use of others. Just made me wonder with Indian troops also being deployed. |
