Got out yesterday afternoon for a few hours scouting around for black bears and deer. Found lots of bear scat but not a sign of any Bambi. Brought one of my #5's along. 'Twas a gorgeous sunny but cool afternoon up on the mountain across the highway from my place. The lake was smooth as glass.

Not far from this lake the forest did burn heavily (Harrison Lake east & west). We were inundated with smoke for weeks on end but this little piece of paradise got lucky. I'm getting my rain gear ready for another excursion this afternoon.

3rd trip into the woods yeilded this mule deer buck. I must admit I harvested this deer without using a Lee Enfield. The rifle I used was a Thompson Center 30-06 with Vortex Viper scope sighted using 180 grain ammo. The shot was taken at 233 meters in low light/misty early sunrise conditions. He dropped right away and his females weren't too pleased.

Nice deer, great to see there are still areas with Mule deer. Also, I just have to say, that is one big dang dog! Beautiful German Shepherd!

His name is Gage. He is 3 years old now and loves to go hunting with our crew. My buddy Shane in the photo is his human. He is one fearless dog I can attest to that fact!

I remember watching the cars driving back to the Twin Cities, Minn. with the deer tied across the cars. So your pic brings back a few good old days thoughts, Thanks.
Enjoy the area.
