On my No1 mkIII* the sling swivels stick out further on one side than the other (offset). I took my rifle apart to clean it. Took the swivels off and all. And now I can't remember which side the offset is supposed to go on. Disapprove

The offset goes toward the right side. Fun fact, the reason for the offset swivels was the old volley sights. Later versions of the swivels are not offset.

as he said the offset is for the volleys , if yours does not have volleys there is no issue putting the centered ones on it , if that was something you might want ,

Thanks for the info. By some stroke of luck i managed to put them back on right.
I find it odd that they are on my 44 Lithgow since they had phased out the volley sights long before that. By chance did Lithgow make all theirs like that or could these have been replaced?

They could have been put on new or replaced. The offset swivels were never done away with and were used up just like any other parts in the system.

Howdy;a tidbit.
you can identify the Lithgow sling swivels by the feeder factory (Production Code stamp marking;BA etc) if examined closely.
Cheer’s.
Anyone seen the Tardis Box anywhere? 🤨
