Im new to the enfield and need help!I have a 1943 No4 Mk1* that has been sporterized. I would like to get it back to original state if possible. The rear sight mount looks like it has been shaven down. Is there anyway it can be welded back on? Also the barrel is about 2 1/2 inches shorter than the ones with the full wood guards. Any comments would be appreciated.Thanks. <img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://counters.gigya.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEwMTE5Mjg3OTY3OTYmcHQ9MTAxMTkyODgwMzUxNSZwPTIwOTQxMSZkPSZnPTEmdD*mbz1mYjUyMjFlYTFjZGM*NzQ5YTViM2U3YjQ4YTZiZGFjYg==.gif" /><a target='_top' title='Click to customize this Kimi-Image with your own Messages and Photos on Imikimi. com!' href='http://imikimi01.com/link/link_through/b1rT-10r?password=9VPTfsJahQ'><img alt=" " border="0" src="

Our collegues in the USA should be able to point you in the direction of a new barrel. As for the sight mount that will need specialist welding/brazing by a gunsmith. Any heat applied to a gun needs to be carefully controlled as it can ruin the tensile strength of the action.

Thanks for your reply. I didnt know if the rear sight mount could be welded or not.I found a barrel for around $50 on a web sight. That seems to be cheap. Im trying to figure out how to post pictures. maybe this will work Thanks again

Can't gtee they'll be able too weld it. Only way is to ask a gunsmith if it's feasible before you blow money on rebarreling.

Second what Tony said ... Get a Gun Smith to look at it and see if He could help you.... As for wood I could part with a few peices of NO$ wood but only if you really need it at the time. Take care of the GunSmith Biz first and then get back with me...

I hate to be a spoiler, but unless you have a strong personal attachment to that rifle, it would be much cheaper to just buy one in original shape. They can still be found from $150 to $200, and I think your gunsmith bill on a re-barrel and weld would exceed that.

I'm with Ed on this one, as much as I like to see people bringing them back to orig. That being said sometimes you just have realize that your better off making it into a hotrod, or Mall ninja defense weapon.... lol

I suspect your only option for sights is going to be a scope sight set up & with the rear peep sight mounts milled off, you would need something like the old Parker hale mount which screwed into the front receiver ring & the charger guide. You'd be lucky to find one of these now, Ebay perhaps, I don't know if anyone does anything like that now? With something like that you could still have a handy woods rifle.
