he!!o,
i bought a Enfield No4 MKII a few weeks ago and i'm thrilled by this gun. The problem is, that the front sight is not heigh enough to shoot on 50 or 100meters, so i bought an target sight and want to change it. I have the tools for this, but to which side i have to push out the sight? Is it important or doesn't matter? Thank you very much ;) Carsten

The foresight can be removed from either side of the block band. I think the Mk 2 rifle should have a screw on the forward face of the block band, you must loosen this screw first. The screw is a “reverse slot”, so you need a tool to loosen it. A Schrader valve tool will work if it’s not rusted in.
You can get foresight blades of varying heights. There should be a stamping on the base of the foresight blade that identifies the difference in blade height from the nominal blade height. These are in increments of 0.015 inches. So, if your foresight is stamped +.03, then the blade is 0.030 inches taller than nominal. You can calculate what blade height you will need to zero the rifle at 100 yards/meters, then search for one on line that is the required height. They come in heights from -.045 to +.120. A blade marked “0” is the nominal height giving a line of sight 1.00 inches above bore centerline. Each increment in blade height gives about 2 Minutes of Angle change in vertical point of impact (2 inches at 100 yds). |

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation, it helps a lot!
The special tool for "reverse slot" screw is ordered last week and should be arrived next days. The sight i bought is 9mm height and should be high enough for 50m and 100m. I hope it fits for 300m too. |
