So a buddy of mine told me I have an authentic WW1 non altered barrel and action enfield. It was stamped for use in Austria by the police after the first world War. I stripped it down to clean it. There are so many markings on it, it's insane.

Welcome to the forum.
That sounds like a great rifle. Please post some photos so we can see it.
If your cleaning it; don't over do it. obviously metal parts need a clean and lube, but don't be too agressive on the woodwork. There's years of history in these rifles; it's worth keeping!

I am be no means an expert on these guns so if I'm wrong. I apologize. So if I don't have what he told me. Then what is it? Thanks.

You may need to resize them, possibly your pictures are too large. The one that did post of the wrist indicates a 1918 MkIII* "peddled scheme" rifle.

You have a 1918 Short Magazine Lee Enfield. It would be .303 British originally.
As there is no makers stamp on the wrist; such as Enfield or BSA. It will be one of the "Peddled" scheme rifles. Probably made at the Standard Small Arms factory.

You should find a stamp SSA on the rear next to the bolt rail entrance where the butt stock meets the metal.
Here's an example from my 1918 SSA built rifle. This one was modified to .22 after WW1.
The "Peddled" scheme rifles were a wartime project to help increase production. Instead of all the parts being made in one factory; part's were brought in from multiple suppliers and assembled at SSA.
They are quite interesting from a collector point of view; because some rifles are fitted with parts were made by small companies and only appear on these rifles. Example; the Butt plate on my SSA rifle is made of steel, with a brass trap for the cleaning kit. Full brass butt plate was normal at the bigger factories.

Please post some more photos of your rifle.

here is an example of a BSA made rifle. The makers name is stamped below the GR and Crown
(GR =George Rex, i.e King George)

Here is the wrist of my peddled scheme SSA built rifle. No makers mark on the wrist, as per your rifle.

I took off some of the bluing in the back as I would like to rebuild and restore this piece anyway, but here is what I found. It's either a BSA, or SSA With CT stamped over it. Very very interesting so far. I appreciate you all looking and commenting. Oh and yes it is still in 303. The guy I purchased it from used it to hunt last year, taking a white tailed North American Buck with it. He also gave me the reloading die set with it. I plan to restore this so so please any comments would be great.
