I bid on a No4Mk1* barrel the other day and won. What I did not expect was what arrived in the mail today. The barrel showed up,that was expected. It was still attached to the receiver, and that still has the L flip sight attached, the complete front sight assembly was there as well. The raceway guide forward of the slot is broken like Shiloh's rifle but I have a wire feed welder so,no worries there. I now have a low serial numbered 1942 Long Branch barrelled receiver. The barrel is a six grooved variant and is in G-VG condition. I will do my best to refurbish and restore it to as original as possible. I located and purchased a complete Long Branch furniture set and that is where I will start from.
Side Note: My winning bid was $64.95 USD

I went through my tiny parts bin and found everything minus the sear and magazine catch. The complete No4 bolt assembly I have is stamped LB as is everything else. I did not realize I had that much Long Branch parts.

Goosic I think you have far too much time on your hands! Looks like another great project. Look forward to seeing the progress. |

It has the exact same broken bit like yours Shiloh. A tad more so however but,it closes as it should and doesn't jump track so, I might not screw with it.....yet. After closer inspection I found that it went through a FTR in 1948 but did not get the Mk2 upgrade. The barrel is not what I had expected neither. It is not a two groove but a six groove and it looks good.

Thats awesome.
My smithy told me the best way to fix that is by someone who is excellent at tig welding, the heats more controlable and less chance or wrecking the receivcer. I the think she'll bea a beauty when done. My sisters hubby has an LB he bought in the sixties, its mine when he chrokes... lol |

No doubt Tig has it's place, but for fairly thick mild steel applications, mig is fine. Maybe test on a spare piece of steel you have kicking around of similar thickness to get a feel for how hot you need. I'm guessing I'm preaching to the choir as I suspect your pretty good with the wire feed!

I was a certified bridge welder at one time. My little wire feed does pretty good on small stuff. All I plan on doing is putting just enough metal on the ends of the channel and then filing it down.

Goosic, is the barrel stamped like this photo? I think Long Branch was the only arsenal that manufactured 6 groove barrels (I may be wrong about this and perhaps others on the forum can confirm), they used BREN gun barrel tooling. The barrel is identified as a C MK 4, made in the 1950s according to Skennerton.

It has the A inside a C on the barrel and a Canadian Arsenal Stamp on top of the receiver and that's it. I triple checked the grooves in case I misread what I saw but it continues to add up to six. It was FTR'd in 48'. Maybe Fazackerly scrubbed the C MK 4 and the maple leaf off? The barrels outward appearance looks rather new...
