As some of you are aware, I have been dialing in my little Jap made Weatherby Vanguard in .243W. I think I may have accomplished that task finally as of this morning. I have been working up a handload and did not expect the results I achieved today. I started with the starting charge weight of 35.0grns of VVN540 with a C.O.L. of 2.689". My averaged FPS was 2765 and the groups were very acceptable using Hornady 100grn BTSP projectiles. Today however, my test loads were charged with 35.5grns of VVN540 using 90grn Lapua OTM Scenar-L projectiles with a C.O.L. of 2.700". The chronograph showed my first shot @3200 fps! My fastest FPS was 3245 ans my slowest was 3154. I had two targets up side by side and placed 25 shots apiece into each one @100 yards. Both groups measured just under 1.31". After all the legit testing was finished I took an old 7.62 case and taped it to the bottom of the target to see if I could hit it. I have a tendency to shoot to the left of center so I purposely aimed right of center, took a breath, breathed out slowly and sent it down range. Hit it just left of center. It's definitely a tack driver. Next weekend I will try it out on the 300 yard range...

I noticed the bullet hole is a little bit left of centre on the cartridge... maybe some more practice?😁😁😁! Awesome shooting, Goosic!

I've had my fair share of target rifles and rifles designed to do other types of target shooting. When I bought this rifle however, I never intended for it to become my all-time favorite target rifle. (I'm still dialing in my No4Mk1* LB with the PH5C/PH1 sighting system so, that will be for another discussion.) The best part of shooting this rifle has everything to do with the recoil. There is hardly any to contend with and in combination with the thumbhole stock, you never lose your field of focus through the scope...

I've owned a couple of .243's (Remington700 and a Husqvarna) and both were very comfortable to shoot. A much forgotten calibre.

I had a Parker Hale 1200 Midland in .243. Never shot it and regret never doing so. This year I am putting in for Pronghorn Antelope in a specific area east of Flagstaff, South of Sunset Crater and northwest of Meteor Crater. The area is as flat as you can ask for in an circumference of at least 5 miles...

Nothing fancy. Found it on eBay for $99.00 dollars. It is a Hammers 8.5-32×50 OAO with a 1" main tube...

I kinda did not want to post this picture because of how bad it looks but, this is 25 shots taken at 200 yards.(Remember that I have a tendency to shoot left of center.) All 25 shots can be covered with the palm of your hand. A 3.08" spread is not bad, I think...
