This time of year, I prefer to layer up in wool when I check on my property. I've found the surplus Swedish uniforms to be excellent. So now I look a little like the Swedish army of the mid-1900's, with pouches, canteens and other gear from all over the world (bought for pennies on the dollar).

I use a 'nam era LC pack when I'm huntin deer & Moose.Use a 60's era SAR pack when I'm doin the canoe/portage thing in Algonquin.I use W/german winter combat pants for the hunt as well.All wool(no noise) lots o pockets & a layer of rubber in twixt the wool layers in front.Cant beat 'em!!

LoL, I use a british bergan i got for like 12 bucks, much nicer than an ALICE pack and a hodgepodge of other ALICE equpment as well
