Moving to "the back end of The Flatlands".
Considering the way I see things going, I think its a wise decision.
6 miles to the nearest (tiny) town & 16 to the bigger town. 69 to the "City".
Got a house with a little property.
Pics to follow, moving at the end of the month.
Right now no phone, cable, satellite, or internet.
But it comes with 2 beds 2 baths, big kitchen (possibly eat in) a living room & a ton of storage space.
Well water & a septic system.
Oh & a fruiting fig tree!
Clap
Has a nice screened in porch a fire ring & 2 4' X 8' raised bed garden frames & a shed.
Ooohhhh arr! Oooohhhh ARRR!

That's great Shamu.
Sounds very much like our house. No phone, no satellite, no internet. 10 minutes from a small town. The area is also flat farmland.
Looking forward to seeing the photos!
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Interestingly the whole area is "Flat as yer father's 'at" farmland, open fields with crops & maybe a planted brush border between properties, all except this one area which is heavily forested. So nice wind breaks but no trees near the house.

OK , now i can visualize it , at first i was thinking it might have been an unofficial  "label" for the area that was like "the other side of the tracks" kinda thing

i take it that its prairie with a wooded gulch/ravine ? or just remaining forested flatland that didnt get cleared for farming ?

I'm not sure why but that's how it is.
I think its agriculture Vs Horse farms or something similar.
No gulch, its too flat for that. Dead Just the foliage differs. It is kind of a dig, based on my Arkie buddy's descriptions of the state, anything out of the Ozarks & down on the Ole Miss country is "Flatlands".
I'll get some pics after the move.
This  is pretty representative, but its just something I lifted of the interweb.

Glad to hear you will be getting settled into your own place soon Shamu.  How far to the nearest range? Or can can you shoot on your new property?

I'm not really sure! The area seems to be heavily slanted to bird hunting, all shotguns so far.
I've contacted the Izaac Walton league, I'm a member here in Washington Co, & they'll be getting back to me soon.
I've found 4 places that sound likely but have to contact them still, one at 43 miles, one at19 miles, one at 54 miles & another at 66 miles.
I doubt I'll be able to shoot on the property there are enough other house scattered about withing a mile or so & its flat as a pancake, so a berm would be a huge undertaking.

OK, found 3 ranges all about 40~60 miles away.
Several have a membership requirement for new members moving into the area. They have to have several existing members as references to begin the initiation process.
HOW?
I'm moving there from Far, Far away!
How would I know "several existing members"?
Isaac Walton does not transfer anything so I have to restart the entire wait for an opening, file an application Pay everything all over again.
Luckily there's one local Rod & Gun that seems a bit more reasonable. & I'm in contact with them & have been invited to visit once I'm settled in.
