I remember a posting on another site years ago which gave the recipe for making gun barrel cleaner. Basically it was oil kerosene and ammonia based. Has anyone any idea what volumes to use? It could be useful to know.

"Mineral Spirits also called Stoddard solvent [CAS 8052-41-3][1], is a petroleum distilate commonly used as a paint thinner and mild solvent. In Europe, it is referred to as white spirit."
From Wikpedia. Does that help? If not, I'll keep looking.

White spirits are available as far as I know in Aus.
This Eds Red sounds like a rough wine.
My father knocks up a brew which neutralises black powder and the corrosive caps in the 303, Not sure of all the ingredients but it works.
I think most gunsmiths(at least the older ones) brew their own solvents.

I remember acetone being one of the ingredients. Handle with care in a well ventilated area. Cancer is nasty stuff.

NO. Mineral oil, mineral spirits, are not highly flammable. Isn't naptha used in lamps and stoves? Are you thinking of white gas?
